Temperate Grasslands
The Temperate Grasslands of the Southern Highlands , for example, are characterized by a mix of tall- and short-grass species, including varieties of wheatgrass, needlegrass, and bluegrass. These grasslands, which are maintained by a combination of natural processes and managed grazing by introduced herbivores, such as the Martian Bison, provide critical habitat for a range of bird, insect, and small mammal species.
