Principality of Xerograd

Demography and Population

Xerograd is not centralized, it has one major city the rest of the population is spread out all across the Principalities villages and towns. Most of who live here are human but further to the east and north you can find more and more half-elves, half-orcs and dwarves. Xerograd is quite arcanophobic, so advances in medicine are slow and between that and the constant danger of attack from wild monsters and rampaging hordes the lifespan of the inhabitants is low compared to the other ex-empire countries.

Military

Owlbear knights are the staple of the Xerogradian armed forces. The sons and daughters of nobles who have to slay owlbears and take their hide to decorate their armor. Only the brave and strong manage this feat and become one of the knights. The elite of the knights are Owlbear rides the few brave or foolish enough to try and succeed in taming an owlbear to ride into combat. The rest of the armed are conscripts and men at arms provided by local rulers.

Technological Level

Because of general arcanophobia people refuse to work with mages on an everyday basis this lead to a slow regression of the technological level and progress.

Foreign Relations

Xerograd declared it's independence as soon as they were invited to the last council of Velenthor, a very clear statement to the rest of the human world that they will not bow to anyone again. It was a surprise when Hellias accepted the independence of the neighboring state and over the years they have become military and economical allies. Xerograd has working relations with a few dwarf holds in the northern parts of the Eight wind mountains, sadly those relations led to butting heads with the goliaths of those mountains who have been at odds with the same dwarves for generations. Goliaths have mounted a few raids in to the lands of the principality but a full scale invasion has not yet been mounted due to Goliaths fractured society.

Agriculture & Industry

Xerograd is proud of it's plentiful harvests, the rich soils of this land produce far more grain than other regions of this size even with primitive technology. Other notable productions would be that of honey and mead, fine furs, curd cheeses, hard alcohols and spirits, wood.

Trade & Transport

The biggest trade partners are The Empire of Hellias, Dwarves of the eastern mountains and Laentengros. Most of the trade is done by land trade routes, the only exeption to this being the Lilac river running south to Hellias. Xerograd and their southern neighbors have a good relationship either one not raising high tariffs for one another they have even worked to combat the terrain in the name of commerce. They have built giant cranes that can lift up river boats across the Lilac falls that divide the two countries.

Infrastructure

Old imperials roads are still maintained to a decent level. Riders are used for long distance messaging, they have posts every 4 hours of travel. the land is littered with forts old imperial ones built of stone and new ones built of wood. Xerograd is the only city with a acceptable water and sewage system by the old standards.
