History
Before the Imperial rule The whole of Alinor was a myriad of fractured city states, constant small wars and foreign invasions were leaving the region in ruins, many of the cities were trade partners and an integral part of the Empire's economy. The current ruler o the Dundarian Empire, Emperor Pontius the IV started a military peacekeeping campaign into Alinor driving out invaders and stomping out wars leaving imperial garrisons to ensure the peace by force if he had to. But it proved to be an under taking that needed more than one life time to complete. After his death his son Emperor Tulius the II took the throne and started mending the political divisions that plagued the land and at the age of 45 he managed to integrate the fractured realms into the Empire in the year 502 IE. Sadly he would die a year later of a weak hearth. To ensure a stable governance of the region Magistros Pontificus vas Oxtrich reorganised the reagion in to a more feudal style states ruled by Viceroys selected by the Empire, Brindol being the largest city was given the reigns in the Vale. After centuries of Imperial rule the Viceroyalities were biding for more autonomy wishing they could elect their rulers instead imperial puppets lording over them in the year 1064 IE they got their wish as the last emperor Alexander the XIII died and the empire dissolved. In the last council of Velenthor it was decided that the Viceroyalities will be sovereign realms. The Vale was independent for about 6 years until Armo gave them an ultimatum to join or be taken over. And as many know the Vale folk are most likely to fight given this kind of choice. Sailstand was given a similar proposition it would be a matter of time that Dunkir would get the same one down the line. So the Vicereoyalities joined banners under Sailstand Crowning their Viceroy the first king of Allinor. Armo tried to assault the river-lords with their superior numbers and still fledgling war wizards, but did not know the terrain as well as the locals. Deep rivers that ran through the old mountains proved a worthy enemy to the purple dragon armies many died on the trip there many more fell from the expert guerilla war that the Alinorians waged. Within a year and a half the war was over and the river lords proved that from now on they stand united and that no foreign power will rule them again.
Demography and Population
There are about 30000 people living in the Vale that are under the rule of the Viceroyality. More than 80% of all inhabitants are human, they are the most represented in politics, being the only race with the title of noble in the region. Second to them are the dwarfs and halflings, halflings are great agricultural workers and have lived here just a few centuries shorter than humans. The dwarf population are mostly refugees from Aldsnow that got misplaced a hundred years back after an orc khan sacked and occupied the metropolis, and some are exiles from the Hammerfist holds, criminals who shunned by their communities and hid them selves among the refugees either to live a new life or to blend in and continue their ways. There are small populations of Half-orcs who were born here after the many orc invasions, they work as muscle in the cities and keep to the slums of the cities in fear prejudice, but there is a community for those who seek it in Redrock village, most half-orcs there work in the copper mines or join the infamous black network that runs the village and has a keep near the mountainside. Elves are rare in the cities they keep to them selves in the wilds and migrate south and north with the seasons so they cannot counted as a stable population here. But there are few who live in the cities (mostly moon elves), they have made long lives here plying their trade some even have families with the locals making the ever so rare half-elves.
Territories
The Viceroyality holds only the vale as part of their de jure and de facto claims and has for centuries almost no living nobles can claim the vale with their lineage.
Military
The armies of the Vale consist of a force of knights loyal to the Viceroy also known as the Lions of Brindol. The commoners can join the military to gain some coin and buy land, but must serve a minimum of two years before gaining the right to be discharged. The military is structured to footmen, men-at-arms, sergeant, lieutenant and generals lead by the Vale marshal Lars Ulverch.
Religion
Belief in the Dawnlord (Leathander) is the most widespread religion, but also other gods make their home in the vale. The cult of the Raven queen oversees the burials and last rites of the people. Cleric are a common sight in the courtrooms, chapels to Torm, Helm, Tempus and Melora can be found in settlements all across. Dwarfs are free to worship Moradin and the rest of the Dwarfish pantheon as well as the halflings worship Shantea.
Foreign Relations
Most of foreign relations consist of trade the Viceroyality does not wish to go to war with it's neighbors for the dwarfs to the east are to well entrenched for assaults. To the south the Kingdom of Armo is issuing technological aid to the vale in the form one it's brightest wizards - Galandra van Zalthofen, who now acts as the court mage an arcane advisor and an ambassador from Armo. The north is a savage tundra full of feral monstrosities and human orc, ogre, lizardfolk and goblinoid tribes. They are too undeveloped and the Viceroyality does not have the resources and raw manpower to lock down the region.
Agriculture & Industry
The Vale is an agricultural powerhouse, each year producing tons of grain, linen, lavender and a myriad of other fruits and vegetables. The flat plains make it easy to plant and harvest the goods, the river floods each spring bringing the needed nutrients and the mountains shield the valley and create a perfect micro climate for the native plants.
Trade & Transport
The simple people of the vale are most likely to travel by horse drawn carriages along the old imperial roads, but the trade flows in the rivers - the lifelines of the local Alinorian trade, for almost all major Alinorian cities are built on the river banks.
Education
Only the middle and upper classes can afford education. The peasants usually take up farming from their parents, townsfolk apprentice their children to masters of a craft, merchants and nobles send their children to be tutored by the church, or the universities and collages in Sailstand or Levagveux if the family is really rich.
Infrastructure
The vale as well as most of the ex-imperial states has a network of roads all across, the river is routinely de-boged allowing safe passage for boats. The cities have a working sewage system. River crossings are usually equipped with a ferry, and the borders have towers and gate houses.
