Kortarl

Kortarls are a species native to the generation ship Tjugo. The ship's origin and destination are both unknown. Kortarls are a very utilitarian and industrious peoples; their home being a ecumenopolis with very little plant or animal life remaining on it. Kortarls are experts at taking things apart and reverse-engineering them and creating new things with the materials. Kortarls are very territorial and open to confrontation. Tjugo is a very overpopulated station, and private property is a very limited resource.   BIOLOGY
Kortarls are a bipedal species with 2 arms and 4 fingers on each hand. Their skin is brown or grey typically. Kortarls have glowing blue filaments in their electrically charged fangs.   Kortarls possess the most potent bioelectrogenesis known to the Conglomerate, they can store electricity in organic batteries and release it at any time over short distance. The electricity is great for killing prey at short range, especially with their fangs and fingernails. Kortarls evolved to have great control over their nervous system, including the ability to communicate semi-complex ideas through physical, typically hand-to-hand, contact. This contact is how kortarls reproduce. The species is mono-gendered, and lacks any sexual organ. Reproduction works by two kortarls bridging their minds directly by pressing their heads together. One person's genetic code is sent to the other who carries a baby. Some claim they can decide who will be the 'mother', but there is no scientific evidence of this.   For several centuries Tjugo closely orbited a pair of neutron stars. Kortarls were forced to don protective environment suits to shade themselves from the heat and radiation off those stars. Tjugo eventually escaped orbit, but the suits remained as an important part of kortarlien culture. The suit remained important after kortarls made contact with humans, who kept their environments much hotter than the 200 K environment tjugo stays at.
