Apriorian

Apriorians are the given name of the species that lived on Apriori V. After their planet was hit by the Crimson Light, their species almost faces extinction.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Apriorians have four arms, two large and two smaller, both which have hands with three fingers and a thumb each. They also have two legs, which have two toes on each foot.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Apriorians have blue colouring all over their body, darkening on their limbs. Scarring will leave lighter markings on the body.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Apriorians have antennae on their head which allows them to detect odors and humidity levels in the air. Females have more angular antennae, while males are more rounded.
Apriorians also have pointed ears, which are longer on females than the males.
They have two eyes, which can be a variety of colours. This doesn't effect their eyesight.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Apriorians are mainly omnivores. They struggle with drier foods, which they will either add liquids or other moist ingredients to make it more palatable.
Apriorians have a preference towards fresh fish and fruit, though they do have ways to preserve it for colder months or when said source is out of season.

Genetics and Reproduction

Female Apriorians develop a number of eggs over an ovarian cycle, which are reabsorbed if they don't end up mating before the cycle restarts.
When the eggs are ready, the female will use their ovipositor to insert them into the male, who will then fertilize and incubate the eggs.   The eggs are released after a period of time, where they are ready to hatch, which will hatch give or take a few days.
If all goes well, the average amount of offspring per batch of eggs is about 5.

Behaviour

Trilling

Apriorians will make a trilling noise if they are in a good mood, which is mostly a subconscious action. They will also trill when they're trying to comfort others. Trilling can also be used as a short-hand communication between Apriorians if they know each other well.

Nesting

Apriorians will construct sleeping nests from comfortable fabrics and cloths in small secluded or sheltered places. If it calls for it, nests don't necessarily have to be constructed from the ground up.
Sleeping nests are usually constructed to fit one or two Apriorians in, though young children will usually share a sleeping nest.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Apriorians have short first names, as they commonly have a last name that is a combination of their parent's names. It is frowned upon to give a child a name that is longer that three syllables.

Common Dress Code

Apriorians wear large woven cloth wrapped around their bodies. Usually it is one large piece of, but sometimes in colder weather extra layers are added.
For children, their cloth is usually handmade by their parents, or other family members until they learn how to weave their own.
For more important occasions, the cloth woven is designed with more intricate patterns.

Courtship Ideals

Since Apriorians will mate for life, courtship rituals are a very big deal to them.
It is considered tradition to weave an extremely intricate cloth to give to a potential mate, which if accepted will be the fabric worn when they get married.
If declined, the piece is usually unwoven, which then the material can be rewoven into a different another design for another potential mate. Some Apriorians will attempt to just reuse the same cloth for courting different potential mates, but it can be risky as it's seen in bad taste to do so.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The Everchanging Song

All members of the Apriorians have a specific part of the song that they sing, during various occasions. They are taught to partake in the song while they're very young, and are expected to pass on the task of having their children sing.
Since the song is fully dependent on who's there, it brings different meaning when it's sung (i.e a song of mourning at a funeral for someone will always be different because there will be different people there to sing it, same for a song of celebration)

Gift-giving

Gifts that hold important meaning or are for important occasions are usually always hand-made by the giver. To give a gift that is not made by one's self is considered to be worse than not giving a gift at all.
To get around this, some Apriorians will claim a gift is from their whole family if they did not make it themself.
There are few exceptions to this custom, examples being: hard to acquire/exotic food or items, favourite foods of the recipient, etc.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Apriorians had little contact with anything outside of their home-planet, with the occasional exception of (illegal) interplanetary visitors. This was due to Galactic Union regulations.
After the Crimson Light had struck their planet, the remaining survivors were taken by The Conservationists in an attempt to preserve the species from extinction.
