One Final Storm

Military action

Stannis Baratheon starves to death within Storm's End. His wife, Selyse Florent, surrenders the castle in the name of Renly Baratheon, the boy who would be Lord. Rhaegar pardons Selyse and names her regent for her goodbrother.

At Storm’s End, the situation is slowly growing dire. Baratheon forces and Baratheons themselves are starving as the Redwyne fleet prevents any supplies from reaching the men. When the Reach lords return from the Harrenhal summit, it is affirmed to Stannis that he will die or surrender the castle, and he refuses. When Rhaegar orders the same by raven, Stannis instead uses the parchment as kindling and his family feasts on the roasted bird. His brother Renly was the future of his house, and they were hungry too.   Even still, he does not surrender. Stannis Baratheon would die of starvation after another month of defiance in 293 AC, and his wife would surrender the castle in the name of Renly Baratheon, who is now the child Lord of Storm’s End. Rhaegar would personally ride with Jaime Lannister and Arthur Dayne to accept the surrender, and ensured that Renly was well-fed and seen to by a maester to treat their starvation adequately. With her husband dead, Selyse swore oaths of fealty to Rhaegar on shaking, emaciated knees, and was named Lady Regent of the Stormlands for her goodbrother Renly. The rebellious fire of the Stormlords fell dim with the death of Stannis, though many would secretly praise his devotion to the very end.   With the surrender of Storm’s End, the War of the Usurper, also known colloquially as ‘Robert’s Rebellion’, ended officially in 283 AC.
