Military action
Robert Baratheon, the rebel king, clashes with the forces of Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the Trident in the climactic battle of the War of the Usurper.
Rhaegar Targaryen smashes Robert Baratheon’s rebellion at the Trident, the Storm King dying to the Dragon’s blade. With the Riverlands pacified immediately upon the loyalist victory, fearing the burning of their lands, Rhaegar raised them up as his allies as his ancestor Aegon did before, reaffirming oaths of loyalty before riding to secure the capital. King Aerys has only become more paranoid in the wake of this dying rebellion, ordering his son, a war hero, to bring him the heads of Eddard Stark and Jon Arryn, the two rebel leaders still at large. The pair retreated to the Vale, past the Bloody Gate and straight to the Eyrie, to regroup and replan after the death of Robert.
