Marriage of Prince Aelyx to Jaelle Velaryon

Marriage

325AC

Aelyx Targaryen takes Jaelle Velaryon to wife, making her the future Queen of Westeros.

Aelyx Targaryen might have been expected to wed one of his younger sisters-- he certainly had enough of them --but Queen Daenerys desired a more politically advantageous match for her son. House Velaryon, always leal allies of the dragon and their oldest vassals, seemed the ideal pick, and Jaelle Velaryon was eventually betrothed and wed to the Crown Prince. Particularly nasty rumors began to spread following their union, chief among them that Aelyx had married into another Valyrian house in the hopes of their children looking more like dragons than wolves. King Aemon resented such talk and ordered his Master of Whispers to kill the talk before it spread; the match had been for politics, not genetics, and he did not need his people thinking that House Targaryen saw itself any greater than it already was.   Jaelle was said to be a witty girl, a sailor at heart, and spent her days on the decks of ships in the Blackwater instead of with her husband. In fact, she would take many sojourns to Dragonstone throughout the early years of her marriage, just for the joy of the trip. Much to the disappointment of his parents, Aelyx and Jaelle did not prove fruitful immediately, and in fact, they would not have children for many, many years.
