Ki'atan
At the foot of the Royal Pass
The town of Ki’atan is very small (about 50 acres), comprised of maybe 247 people, if you count the Hadridge farm’s 17 kids. Most people don’t. It is common knowledge that the town is ruled by Baron Adonan Hawklight, a human, who was granted the title from the King of Um’Dare. He lives just on the southeastern edge of the village. He is frequently out of town. His Steward, Sainchuel Zezubru, half-orc, interacts most frequently with the villagers. Every day, at 8 and 6, he comes into the village square to check in on and assess the villagers for problems, news and reports from the mountains.
Many of the men work on the south side of the Royal Pass to keep the village and travelers, safe from any stray beasts/monsters/shenanigans. This means that during the day, the farmers, women, children, and elderly, are left with a smaller contingent of men to defend them. There are two official guards who are stationed in the village. There is one advocates to assist with legal matters. For those more concerned about their soul, there are three clergymen and one priests.
There is one Inn/Tavern in the town – The Jester and the Mug, which is run by a couple.
Other businesses include: one Barber, one baker, one carpenter, one Furrier, one hatmaker, one maidservant, one mason, one saddler, one shoemaker, one spice merchant, one weaver, and one tanner. Oooh, and a general store. Obviously.
Ki’atan is situated in the country of Um’Dare and is the western-most hold, sitting just below the Gemma Mountains. In fact, the town of Ki’atan is at the southern tip of the Royal Pass through the Gemma Mountains, as serves as a stopping place for many travelers who wish to journey to the Iath Ocean and beyond.
From Ki’atan, it’s about a two days’s travel east to the Teare River and three days to reach Xi-Erasdeth, to the southeast (also the Iath Ocean). This path passes just south of the Shadowwood Daice, where a known community of Elves lives. Xi-Erasdeth, is the largest city in Um’Dare. The port has many ships leading out of the Iath Ocean to places near and far.
You can also travel the Gap between the Shadowwood and the Gemma Mountains toward the Lake of the Tres Warriors, but that’s at least a week of rough travel to reach the main road and another day to reach Zough to the South East (three days of super rough travel to reach Dawen to the north). There are many other towns and cities in this direction.
