Zalcorin

Zalcorin the Gatekeeper, God of the Underworld

One of the eight divines of Magvel, Zalcorin is fabled to have sealed the rifts that brought in the invaders that caused the Strife Ages. Zalcorin is rarely visually depicted, and when he is, he is portrayed as an ambiguous skeleton marked with his symbol.
Zalcorin's realm is the Underworld, a place of darkness and cold where the souls of the dead go to await their final judgment. As the god of the moon, he is associated with its phases and the tides, as well as with the secrets and mysteries that the night often holds. His connection to winter and the cold is reflected in the long nights and bitter winds that often accompany the season.
As an undead deity, Zalcorin is often viewed with fear and mistrust by mortals, who associate him with death and decay. Consequently, he is the least worshipped out of the 8 divines. However, his followers see him as a protector and guide, helping them navigate the mysteries of life and death and uncover the secrets of the universe.   Many who worship Zalcorin are drawn to his teachings of impermanence and acceptance, finding comfort in the idea that death is not the end but a part of the journey of life. They often see the god as a kind of gatekeeper, holding the keys to the mysteries of the afterlife and guiding souls on their way. Zalcorin's tenets of faith include a firm belief that death is absolute and cannot be cheated, as well as a reverence for the dead and a commitment to seeking knowledge and understanding. His followers often wear his symbol as a protective talisman or to honour his teachings.

Beliefs

Fear not the Grave
Just as when we come into the world, when we die we are afraid of the unknown. But fear is something from within us that has nothing to do with reality. Dying is like being born: just a change. Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it.
Part of a Journey is the End
In a way, mortals are special because they are blessed with death. There is no life without death, no story without a conclusion. In the end, we’re all going to the same place, what matters more is how we get there, and the path we choose along the way.
Embrace the Impermanence of Life
Everything in life is impermanent, and it is this very impermanence that makes life precious. Followers of Zalcorin believe that nothing is meant to last forever, and it is important to appreciate the beauty of life while it lasts.
Accept One's Fate
Death is inevitable, and it is important to accept one's fate when it comes. However, this doesn't mean that one should give up on life or stop striving for their goals. Instead, followers of Zalcorin believe that it is important to live life to the fullest and make the most of the time they have.
Honour the Dead
Death is not the end, but a new beginning. Followers of Zalcorin believe that the dead should be honoured and respected, as they have moved on to a new stage of their journey. Many followers of Zalcorin become morticians, undertakers, or gravediggers in order to properly care for the dead.
Seek Knowledge
Zalcorin is known as the keeper of secrets and mysteries. Followers of Zalcorin believe that knowledge is power and that the pursuit of knowledge can bring one closer to the divine. Many followers of Zalcorin are scholars, sages, or philosophers.
