The Steward Family
Owners of The Waterwheel Pub, the family currently consists of the grandmother, her daughter and son-in-law, and their four children, two boys and two girls. Between the six of them they run the Pub admirably and no one person gets overworked.
Grandmother Agnes is the matriarch of the family and the best baker in Teller Town and perhaps the entirety of Egg Island. An early riser, she is up well before dawn to get the ovens heated and the dough made and proofing. She also makes sweets such as cookies and sweet buns, but these are treats as sweeteners are sometimes hard to come by. Her most famous creation are her sourdough loaves, the starter one that has served generations of her family.
Daughter Bernite is an accomplished cook, and has taught and is still teaching her children the skills needed to excel in the kitchen. Most of the time the fare she produces is hearty and filling, but not exotic. Depending on the meal she may serve eggs and biscuits, or roast pork and fried potatoes, or a hearty stew filled with meat and vegetables. These can be prepared ahead of time and are tasty even hours after being cooked with proper care.
Son-in-law Owen is a bold, broad mountain of a man, always with a hearty laugh and a listening ear. He mans the bar at the The Waterwheel Pub, serving assorted beverages as requested by the customers. He makes a mean cup of Mostup. He also does most of the bookkeeping for the tavern and what rule enforcement is required. Very rarely are customers allowed to consume enough to become drunk as the pub is also a place where families can and do gather, and Owen along with the rest of the family want it to stay that way.
Bernite and Owen's children all assist in various ways at the pub. Each is learning all aspects of the business, from bread baking to meal making, to serving, bartending, cleaning, scrubbing, shopping and much more. Naturally each find some duties more interesting than others, but the entire family, save Grandmother, does any job that is needed. Grandmother is exempt because she has paid her dues, is the matriarch, and is also much loved. Never let it pass your lips that her age has anything to do with this practice.
Since it is the grandmother and daughter that own the pub by right of inheritance, Owen is also known by their family name as are the children.
The daughters are Clara, age 17 and Desi age 14, the third child.
The sons are Tris age 15, and Eber age 12.
