Feya's Glittering Eyes

This article is a concept created during SummerCamp 2023! It is subject to changes, retcons, or may be sent to the secret vault after the event.

Momma didn't let us venture out into the storm
But we saw miss Feya play a little out of form
In her joy, she leapt and pranced
In swirling sands she sang and danced   Momma went a-lookin' for miss Feya not at home
They won't let miss Feya stay a while on her own
She dashed into the swirling sands
Then set her face into her hands   Momma found miss Feya because she could hear her cries
When next miss Feya paid a visit she had glittering eyes
We wanted eyes like Feya's too
Instead they moved us somewhere new
Feya's Glittering Eyes is a nursery rhyme often recited by children who currently, or used to, reside in the Melocazh Barrens.

Warnings of the Sands

The jaunty little tune follows a young girl named Feya, who ventured out of home without her mother's permission to play in the sandstorms, and reportedly came back home with glittering eyes.   This nursery rhyme came about as the phenomenon of the Dessicated Sands began overtaking the region, and was constructed of many of the warnings given to children about wandering out into the winds and storms, which only grew in severity over the years. As greater environmental threats began to develop, and more focus was placed on the use of protective garments and equipment, many of the warnings enouraging protective eyewear built the bulk of this particular nursery rhyme.

Confusing the Locals

Children who had been relocated into the Savelan Northlands and Brineveil Forest from their original homes in the Melocazh Barrens are known to sing this little tune while playing and exploring, a trait often seen as deeply morbid by those who understand the song's origins.   The families native to the north lack much of the context, however, seeing the song as nothing but a silly children's rhyme and taking its lyrics in a lighthearted view. This gap in understanding often creates awkwardness between the native and relocated families, who perceive the children's behaviors very differently.

What a wonderful rhyme! I find it well composed, and it ought to be easy to remember. While there are other worldbuilding-goodies to fetch from the article, I think the rhyme and rhythm itself is what really sells this to me as it's something that would exist within Malkora. Those who do not know its origin would surely recall the rhyme if faced with what it warns of. It is realistic. It serves its purpose. I may have a bias towards folklore, but this might be my favorite article of yours!

I'm glad you liked it so much! :D It was fun coming up with the song and the rhymes, and it was a reminder that it's been a criminally long time since I've flexed my poetry muscles. I used to do so much when I was younger!

Like all good children's rhymes, this one is dark and twisted, both a nightmare and a warning. Super creepy, and well done! I could see some very spooky urban legends growing up around this, too, about how it wasn't the sand that did it, but something else that gave her some sort of special visual acuity, LOL!

This was so much fun! It definitely left me wanting more. I do love the inclusion of some of the listeners thinking the song was morbid, as most of our childhood songs were. This was a great little sneak peek into your world! Good luck during the last days of summer camp. - Amanda :)
