Whakangaro island

Geography

The main landmark of the island is the volcano, which activity caused a major historical revolution. The volcano iself is dormant by the age X, but is known to have frequent spurts of activity, which makes the region overall unfit for settlements in the long term. It's highest eruption point was however not of total natural cause, as a planar ritual insideĀ The temple-city of Yaz caused the landmark to lose major stability which caused eruption soon after the incident. After the events, some cultures from the west tried to settle around, but the various natural and supernatural dangers made those efforts pointless, leaving a handful of ruins as a warning to the next colonisers.   Outside of the barren section of the volcano, nature managed to thrive more around the west of the island, which have a humid and lush jungle. Some rivers connects altogether, but a particular one east of it's center is more of a hazard than a source of life, as one of the river, reddish in color and who gave the place it's moniker of Bloodroot Marsh, it's around the boiling point.   Aside from those two main geographical locations, then north-west and south-west have some elevations which have some of the peaks many feet above the sea level.

Ecosystem

Despite the presence of the volcano, the thickness of trees and the richness of the soil, thanks to volcano ash, make the jungle tree height and width large and sturdy, and also gets a strong level of humidity inside. the rivers also gave good sediments and food for the fishes which also gave good nutrition to their predator. However, because of the occult energies around and figments of magical rituals, a lot of the fauna became more agressive and territorial than before, which makes their numbers more limited, but increasingly over time into predatorial capacities. One of the most dangerous creatures to encounter is the Flesh Drainer, which hunting method also affected the very nature of some trees, making them abominations that crave blood when not dormant near the fleshdrainer's hunting ground, more south of the marsh   Very ancient settlements prior to the jungle's formation can be found but are mostly absent of objects of interest remaining, as most original denizens fled the region once the temple-city fell, using ships to leave the location. When the second wave of settlement came from the west, some tried to settle inside the jungle but the survival proved too fickle, leaving some to leave north or south and gradually leaving the island. Thus, the hand of man had been absent for centuries.   some fauna adapted to the volcano's activity and evolved accordingly to survive near it, but the southern region holds a place absent of any fauna getting close to it, the ruined tower which is inhabited since centuries by a collosal ghost-bird. only avians seems to travel near the place and don't stay long, and limited roots and vines that can survive on harsh condition managed to engulf the stone tower.   Oceanic fauna also travels to some degree near the island, usually on edges far from the volcano enough.

Climate

Outside of the volcanic activity, there happens to have occasional ash storms that condenses and stays around the last for some weeks, this reduce the overall temperature around and overall light refraction, but never reaches a 'winter' type of environment.
