Bloodroot Marsh

Never sure where feets may step on this endless marsh, as its biome itself seems to play tricks on you. Be especially weary of Hell's River, for you'd forfeit your life in the agony of boiled skin if you ever fall into it. Sadim Al-Bhakari

Ecosystem

Connecting to the ocean and the nearby plains, a large number or rivers and forks connects to the swamp. Collecting a large portions of migratory fauna and flora which came from pollen transported through strong winds traveling from the ocean, the first species found a fertile ground near the western part of the island, which expanded into a large marsh over time, as the volcano's sediments and fractures in the soil left for quite a fertile ground to prosper. As expected, many invasive species tried to take their hold on the ideal, and as such, the ecosystem was pretty prone to change over time. But after some decades, those that favored humid territories remained inside the swamp, the the plants started to develop a formidable adaptation to their surrounding: the flora managed to develop a behaviour which closes their pores when sensing high heat coming from the occasional ashes and fire motes of the still active, but not errupting volcano. this helped the flora also to keep their moisture very well, which helped some fauna to collect dew and water from those when nearby rivers were not suitable, such as Hell's River.

Localized Phenomena

It is occasional that the eastern part of the swamp may be some dust or ash cloud  and residues coming from the volcano. Thanks to the flora's adapation, it never cause bonfire, but the air can remains difficult to breathe nearby during those outbursts. combined with the humidity, it makes for very dangerous heat for most humanoids to stay for long.   Also, some weird phenomenom can be seens on Bloodroot Marsh, which gave it it's moniker: sometimes, it is possible to see twisted trees having the form of some local fauna, as if they merged into the tree itself, usually in a panicked pose. This is a doing of the Flesh Drainers , which also creates Bloodbark  in some parts of the marsh, which makes it a very lethal zone to visit. Most tribes warned their young about those ominous trees and thus were avoiding the patches of land where those were found.

Fauna & Flora

History

Some tribes in the past tried to inhabit the swamp, but only a handful of little communities managed to stay near the edges of it, the fauna and conditions being way too difficult for humanoid survival. Most tribes prefered to travel around it by canoe on the edge of the island to reach the other edge. Some ruins can still be found on the west and south of the island, where the temperature and biome is more viable.
