House of the Manta

The House of the Manta is a series of continuously occupied deep water domes near the submerged commissure between Western B and C. Built by the Hermitage Island Fellowship to assist in the construction - and, later, ongoing operation - of a commissure transit station to facilitate trade between the HIF and the Western extent of Voxelia, the House of the Manta is somewhat unique among Rostran settlements for its location and the advanced autonet systems that make it all possible. It has been forecasted that the transit station will be open for business around 10,002 AR via cargo submersible docks on the Medial side of the commissure, though seabed habitats on the Medial side will take up to a decade more to complete due to the complexity of working in both microgravity and deep water.

Demographics

Being a Fellowship project, the House of the Manta's population is mostly Low Rostran in composition, though there are also sizeable minorities of New Voxelian human investors and Rostran engineers hired on from the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy. The population skews around 65% male because of the nature of the work, but the House of the Manta is intended to be a permanent settlement and, as such, many workers have moved with their families down to the habitation domes. It remains to be seen how the population changes as the project progresses.

Infrastructure

The House of the Manta is primarily reachable via its seaport, a repurposed oil derrick whose drilling system was initially used as a staging area for the construction of caissons and habitation domes on the sea floor. A large elevator carries vehicles, cargo, and personnel down to the domes on a fixed schedule. Submersibles, used widely for both construction and transportation purposes, can reach the town via docking facilities in a dedicated transit dome.
