Hydem Space

Hydem space is the term used for the portion of Creation that stands between the material plane and outer planes. Therein, there are additional axes that are only partially measured and not at all understood.

Before the Humbling  this space had a number of names by all the space fairing races. After the Humbling, the underlying rules of the space seemed to be upended, making the old formula and vital math needed to traverse that other realm between realms useless. Each day it became harder and harder to navigate till making any sort of jump instantly fatal, sometimes leaving so much ship strewn about space between the starting place and the intended destination.

Space travel only became feasible again when civilizations that were able to maintain their receivers began picking up a deep space broadcast. These broadcasts, once decrypted, gave new formula and basic schematics on how to produce the new needed Hydem Cavitation Generator. The tools that would allow spacecraft to enter the great between plane safely again. The source of the broadcasting was eventually found, a strange organic machine that orbited a black hole. On the side was the label in old galactic basic "Hydem."

It is unclear if the term Hydem is short for 'higher dimension' or Hyde Eman, a famous mathematician before the Humbling. Whatever the meaning of the name, the machine became simply known as the Hydem Machine, and Hydem Space was agreed upon as the common term for the plane between planes as homage to the machine that delivered the stars to spacefarers again.
