Rapid Pearling

Causes

Rapid Pearling is a genetic disorder, though it can be carried for generations before being triggered Its trigger is exessive teleporting within an extremely short timespan- typically emptying both pearl sacs in rapid fire. The body then starts working overtime to create more pearls, believeing that it is in danger. This triggers the existing mutated rapid growth gene.   If the disease doesn't activate when the trigger first happens, the individual does not have Rapid Pearling.

Symptoms

Pearls begin to grow at an impossibly fast rate, most doumentations show a new pearl forming every few minutes. Most of these pearls are useless, not having had enough time to form, but the amount quickly spirals out of control and kills the patient.

Prognosis

Rapid Pearling is fatal, the time between onset of symptoms and death typically being just under two hours.

Affected Groups

It is more common in Higher Enderians than Lower Enderians, possibly due to the closeness in bloodlines.

Hosts & Carriers

The gene is passed through bloodlines, though not everyone in the family will end up getting it. It is common for the rapid pearling gene to skip several generations.   If two people carrying the gene have a child together, the offspring will have the disease.

Prevention

There is no current way to check for the disorder, the only functional prevention being to never teleport mutliple times too quickly.

Cultural Reception

The disorder is feared, with children being told of it as soon they are able to teleport in order to scare them into being safe. Older Enderians trade horror stories of friends-of-relatives that they heard about having seen someone die from it.   Recently there has been a huge increase in Enderian adolescents and young adults attempting to trigger the disease to see if they have it.
