Ulusosu
"The city is the most well planned and modern of all the great cities on the continent. This opportunity, like so many others, arose from tragedy."Ulusosu is a city on the north coast of Kedizlim within the Republic of Cholate. The city is well-known for its modernity and superb city-planning, bearing very little resemblance to city layouts of similar size.
History
Pre-Invasion
There is evidence that the city existed prior to the Great invasions at the close of the Serene Era, but there are no surviving written records and archaeology is limited, leaving the nature of the city prior to human colonization. It can be inferred that the city in those days still functioned as a trade hub as it does in the modern day.Early Liberty Era
The human colonization of the northern coast following the invasions and collapse of elven dominion saw the city occupied and rebuilt by the Chol. The city would become prominent as a trade hub due to its strategic position on the Kedizlim-Ikeyanu trade route. The city would go on to be one of the founding cities of the Uko'lu league which would soon evolve into the Republic of Cholate. However, as trade with Ikeyanu started to decline throughout the 3rd and 4th centuries LE, the city began to fade into irrelevance as the Republic shifted its attention southwards towards the rich river valleys of Asimapa and Asimaria. The Great Shudder
In the year 397 LE, the city was devistated by The Great Shudder, an earthquake and tsunami that leveled the city and left tens of thousands dead. The aftermath of the Shudder saw the city practically abandoned and coordinated rebuilding efforts would not truly begin until the turn of the century.Modern Day
In the aftermath of the Great Shudder, the city staggered slowly back to life, with little aid from the greater republic due to its diminished importance as a trade hub. However, as the 5th century continued on and sailing techniques became more refined, the Chol opened an unexpected new market that promised to dwarf the trade potential of the river valleys; the Sheb of the Amun Dynasty. With this northward focus, the republic at long last put effort towards the rebuilding of the city and by 431 the city had surpassed its pre-Shudder population. The city now stands as the last port of call before the "Archipelago route" through the Ikeyanu shallows towards Sobjui.
