Araiel (AR-a-e-el)

Araiel Tonma

An astyr princess who fled with a Tamun soul to Nenu-Lan and sought refuge with the Court of Misfits. She was kidnapped by the Tribe of the Eternal Way, but the Court managed to rescue her. She was one of the few who survived the disaterous Operation: Starfall, leaving the city right before the conflict arose.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

After absorbing Kirsa's complete outersoul into her own body, the strain of having two souls slowly began to degrade her body, only kept in check by her powerful blood. After it was removed, the slow decay of her body ceased, but the removal process did permanent damage, and left her permanently unable to keep up her stamina for very long.

Special abilities

Araiel had the power of the phoenix running through their veins, and thus their body often overloaded with healing energy, which would offset the degradation of their body from holding two souls. This power would even on occasion bring her back to life after receiving deadly blows in combat, although she got weaker each time this happened.

Specialized Equipment

Araiel normally fought with a kurkri and a scimitar, but also had stolen the Mordel Blade, a blade forged by the Tribe of the Eternal Way with the purpose of inflicting wounds that would never heal. The blade was crafted out of the remains of the Darkmoon Blade, and was forged with the intention of weakening demigods. The blade was then stolen by the Cult of Thom, and used to wound the emerging Collecting One, causing it to go on a rampage.

Personal history

Araiel was born into a family with direct linage to the Primal Beastman, Astor, and thus had powerful magic flowing through her veins. She trained under her astyr masters in both the way of the sword and the politics of Astyr culture. However near the day of crowning her a full adult, she discovered a wounded Tamun boy, Kirsa, on the outskirts of their territory. The generational grudge with the Tamun demanded she turn him over, but she instead decided to nurse him back to health. Eventually, she decided to bring him before Astor, forsaking her birthrite by entering his unleavable prison, in the hopes of trying to stop the fighting between their people. Unfortunately, this was all part of the Tribes plan to assassinate the Primal Beastman with an artifact known as the Mordel Blade, and a battle broke out. The surprise attack could have permanently wounded the demigod, but Kirsa hesitated, moved by the kindness that Araiel had shown them, and this hesitation caused their death. Araiel, heartbroken by the conflict, absorbed their Outersoul, taking their spirit into their own body, which allowed them to escape Astors prison. Pursued by both her people and the Tribe of the Eternal Way, she fled east into Central, eventually winding up in the slums of Nenu-Lan. Worn out from exhaustion and Kirsa's Outersoul eroding away their body, they collapsed, and were discovered by the Court of Misfits. Taking her in and nursing her back to health, she then joined the guild under the pretense of a simple astyr outcast, secretly burying the Mordel Blade and leaving her old life behind.   Eventually, the Tribe of the Eternal Way came looking for both Kirsa's Outersoul and the Mordel Blade, attacking the guildhall and kidnapping Araiel. While the guild was able to free her, the guild leader Gano was furious with the deception, and after some harsh words, Araiel decided to leave and turn herself over to her family. Hoping to be able to make amends and once again attempt to repair relations between the Tamun and the Astyr, she removed Kirsa's outersoul from her body, but the process caused her to remember the Mordel Blade, which her memory of had been supressed by the mind-mage Fera Lels. The guild attempted to rush find it, but it had fallen into the hands of the Cult of Thom. Araiel was then taken fully into custody by the Tribe, in exchange for their help in combating the demonic activity in the city. Thus, she was outside of the city when the disastrous Operation: Starfall was enacted and survived the betrayal. The Mordal Blade was destroyed in the conflict with The Collective One, and Araiel was allowed to return to her people in exchange for the Outersoul of Kirsa being returned to the Tribe. While stripped of her nobility, Araiel was made an official ambassador to the Tribe, and continues to work to try to foster a positive relationship between the tribes.

Education

Arieal was trained in the art of the ranger, mastering various different terrains and weapons.

Employment

Araiel was the daughter of a royal linage and had little need to work formally in her youth. After fleeing her home, she became an Ace in the Court of Misfits, one of their most powerful combatants. After the rise of the Collective and the disbandment of the Court, she returned home, becoming an ambassador to the Tribe of the Eternal Way, and has thus far managed to avoid any further conflict between her people and the tribe.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Araiel is the only known astyr to have ever returned from the Throne of Astor, a magical prison that any can enter, but none can leave, which holds the Primal Beastman of her race captive. This was done due to her body holding an Outersoul of a Tamun, the ones who created the barrier.   Araiel is also the first astyr in generations to attempt to foster positive relations with the Tribe of the Eternal Way, an arduous task.

Failures & Embarrassments

Araiel was unable to stop the fighting between Astor and Kirsa, which resulted in the latter's death. She also let the Mordal Blade fall into the hands of the Cult of Thom, which directly lead to the awakening of the Collective One and its initial assimilative rampage throughout the city of Nenu-Lan

Mental Trauma

Seeing her best friend Kirsa be slain by her god, Astor, did great damage to her mind. When first recruited by the Court of Misfits, Araiel was quite reclusive, but eventually opened up. Her mind was also tampered with by the mind mage Fera Lels, causing her to forget the existence of the Mordal Blade.

Morality & Philosophy

Despite her warrior training, Araiel hated conflict, and desires nothing more than the fighting between her people and the Tamun of the Eternal Way to cease.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Araiels initial motivation was hiding from both her people and the Tribe of the Eternal Way. After leaving the Iron City, Aireal now seeks to foster peace between the Astyr and the Tamun.

Representation & Legacy

Araiel has become a beacon for pacifistic tribes of Astyr, and some have even called for her royal status to be reinstated and her to run as a potential leader of an astyr tribe. The more conservative astyr tribes argue that her ways will lead to the death of their people at the hands of their enemies.
