Khansa
The homeland of the Beetlings and the fortress of their Enthosian Elder, Gromir.
Demographics
Government
The city is ruled over jointly by a military tribunal and a civil council, which as expanded to include representatives from the cities relatively new non-beetling inhabitants.
Defences
The city is crafted out of the sturdy bones of The Earth Wyrm, divinely carved by Gromir's hand. Its spine creates a mighty wall on the west side of the city, while its teeth create a spined gate on the east and north sides. On the south side, it is guarded by a massive cliff, where the Wyrms death made an indent in the earth, known as the Impact Cliffs. Atop these cliffs stand seven massive golem guardians, known as the Seven Guardians, who prevent anyone from attempting to descend from that direction. The center of the city is protected by a golem known as the Great Defender, the herald of Gromir. Unlike many demigods, Gromir himself is an active participant in daily life in the city, and nearly single handedly held of the frontal drow invasion during the Enthosian-Drow conflict.
Industry & Trade
Khansa as long been known for its construction of impeccable shields, and the addition of the duergar refugees has even further boosted its reputation.
Infrastructure
The city gets most of its hydro power from a massive water wheel that churns Crater Lake, known simply as the Wheel. The wheel helps to power a set of large lighthouses named the Hope Beacon and the Crater Beacon, that both helps boats navigate on the dark lake, and sends signals to the city in times of danger.
Districts
The city is broken up into five major districts:
The Crater Lake: A large subterranean lake and its shores on the northwest side of the city, it was created by the impact of the Earthen Wyrms death.
The Inner District: Right in the center of the city, it is where a majority of the cities housing resides.
The Free Market: On the eastern edge of the city, where vendors trade their wears. With the influx of duergar smiths, the market now runs all shifts.
The South Park: A southern section on below the Impact Cliffs, it holds much of the cities entertainment centers.
Bonemeal Crater: A large crater near the center that contains good soil, it is where the cities food is grown on massive farms.
Assets
The city harvests fish from crater lake and utilizes the fertile soil from the Bonemeal Crater to grow lichen and mushroom crops. They also have extensive mines that delve into the Impact Cliffs, which yield bountiful ores and riches. The influx of duergar craftsmanship as seen production of this mine nearly triple, and exports of metal items skyrocket.
Guilds and Factions
The most major faction in the city is the religious followers of Gromir, the Order of the Unbroken Shield, of which nearly every soldier and member of the guard are a party of.
A minor faction of Wyrm Worship exists in the city, venerating the great bones that make up its walls. Often called the Wardens of the Walls, they help to ensure that proper respect is payed to the corpse of the great one. Most of the farming families are also owned by Wyerms, with the Drioenol family being the largest.
Three large families operate the mining operations that employee most of the city, the Alim, the K'soskots, and the N'til familes. However, the three families are mostly cooperative, sharing most of the rights. A new primarily duergar mining family, the Stoneflow family, have also set up shop, and often cause disputes with the locals.
Two other familes dominate the western half of the city, the Vascidu family, who invested in the infrastructure of the Spinyard, which employees the fisheries, and the Kykla family, which operates the lighthouse and runs the Sanctum, the mages guild.
The Shining Shell Guild runs a majority of the most influencial merchants and bankers, while the Painted Stone is an artisan guild that is in charge of livening up the city and throwing various festivals for its inhabitants.
History
