A llanara that resists the call to their monthly choruses, or even avoids singing altogether would be viewed as afflicted with foolishness and sickness.

Common Myths and Legends

It is said that in the distant past, before the llanara were banished from Usoram, that the keep that would one day become Mol-Mirek was home to a powerful mage who often consorted with fey forces. It is believed that the mage made many deals and promises to the llanara, and may have been somehow involved in starting whatever crime lead to their banishment. When the outcast fey arrived at his keep and asked to be entered, the mage, fearing what the other powerful forces of Usoram would do if he harbored them, turned them away. That night, the voices of a thunderous chorus was heard all across Central Matera, and a powerful storm descended on the region. When the storm cleared, the keep was in ruins with a mysterious forest that had grown up overnight, and the mage was never seen again.   Nearly all llanara worship a concept known as The Llanor, which is said to be the first song of creation, and that its continual singing maintains the harmony of the universe. They believe that if the song was ever to be forgotten, the universe itself would begin to unravel.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The llanara are one of the most mysterious races in the world, and their mysterious nature causes most to view them with fear and awe. Their similarly physical build and their respect for nature means that Elves have the easy time relating to them. Any races from Usoram distrust them, knowing that there was a reason for their banishment from their realm.

  • Materil: Llanaras can be tied to either the Light or Love Materil, and can become Lightbenders or Loveteachers.
  • Low-light Vision: Llanaras can see twice as far as humans in low-light conditions.
  • Skill Training: A llanara gains a +1 racial bonus on Knowledge (Nature) and Perform (Sing) checks. These bonuses increase by +1 for every two hit dice the llanara possesses beyond the 1st.
  • Sonic Empowerment: A llanara can infuse it's spells with their natural song magic. A llanara adds +1 to the DCs of any spells with the sonic descriptor that it casts or effects that it uses that utilize sound. These bonuses increase by +1 for every four hit dice the llanara possesses beyond the first.
  • Spell Resistance (Ex): Starting at 2nd racial level, the llanara's strange songs grant them the power to push away spells. They gain spell resistance equal to 11 + their hit dice. A llnara that is unable to speak (perhaps due to being struck in the throat) loses this spell resistance for as long as they are unable to utilize their voice.
  • Song of the Llanara (Su): At 3rd racial level, once per day, a llanara can sing an otherworldly song that entrances all who hear it. This acts as the spell nixie's lure, although the duration is concentration + hit dice rather than level and it doesn't affect Fey creatures. Creatures can resist this effect with a successful Will save (DC = 10 + ½ the users hit dice + users Charisma modifier).
  • Resist Nature’s Lure: Starting at 4th racial level, a llanara gains a +4 racial bonus against the spell-like and supernatural abilities of the fey. This bonus increases by +1 for every four hit dice the llanara possess beyond the 4th. If the llnara gains resist nature’s lure from another class, the bonus doubles and also applies against magical beasts.
  • Song of the End (Sp): Starting at 5th racial level 1/day a llanara can cast wail of the banshee as a 1/day spell like ability, using their total hit dice as their caster level, save that it only affects one creature within 20 feet, counts a 5th level spell for the purpose of calculating DCs, and doesn’t effect fey creatures. The save is Charisma based.

Alternate Racial Traits
  • Fey Caller: Some llanara have honed their magic to specifically target the fey who banished them. A llanara with this trait doubles the bonuses it receives from its Sonic Empowerment ability, but those bonuses now only apply against fey creatures. A llanara with this trait increases their spell resistance gained at 2nd racial level by %50, but their spell resistance only applies against the spells and spell-like abilities of fey creatures and magical beasts. A llanara with this trait can only affect fey and magical beasts with its Song of the Llanara and Song of the End abilities gained at 3rd and 5th racial level. This trait alters the llanaras Sonic Empowerment, Spell Resistance, Song of the Llanara, and Song of the End traits.
  • Fey Damage Resistance: Some llanara still retain their tough fey bodies. They gain DR equal to ½ their Hit Dice/Cold Iron. This trait replaces the sonic empowerment trait.
  • Undersight: Some llanara instead retreated deep into the caverns of the earth. These llanara lack low-light vision, instead having Darkvision 60 feet am the light sensitivity trait. This trait alters the llanara's senses.
