Mele (/məˈlɛ/ (meh-'lee))
The currency of Vatenrelm, the Realm of Water. Like most realms, they are divided into four categories.
Gehers (Commonly known as Hers) - The most common of the Mele, it is carved out of copper.
Gespru (Commonly known as Sprunge) - Carved out of silver, each Gespru is worth 10 Gehers
Geteif (Commonly known as Teif) - Carved out of gold, each Geteif is worth 10 Gespru
Geslir (Commonly known as Slir) - The rarest and most valuable mele, it is carved out of platinum. Each Geslir is worth 10 Geteif.
Significance
The fish on the Mele represent the relationship of Vatenrelm and the Deep Realm, as things in the Deep greatly affect things on the surface, and vice versa, while the anchor is the official stamp of the Overseas Merchant Guild. Only a select few in the criminal underbelly would accept unstamped currency.
Due to salt-water corrosion, Hers are not valued in the Deep Realm, with valuable shells being traded instead. Luckily, most trade between the Deep and the Surface comes in the form of Sprunge and Teif.
