Overview
As one of the three most senior titles within the Triumvirate Guard, a Soul of Light is a paladin specifically chosen to be the hand of Erathis upon Materia by the State Church of the Ascan Empire.Qualifications
Candidate Paladins are selected by the Church of Erathis, and vetted extensively. If the candidate is sufficently strong, of good moral standing, and bears Erathis's blessing very strongly, then the Paladin may subject to a set of secretive trials to determine their worth. If they pass, they have the opportunity to gain the title. The title is only given to one living person at a time, and there may be long periods of time where there is no designated Soul of Light, if no one suitable exists.Duities
As part of the Triumvirate Guard, a Soul of Light is sworn to protect the Emperor of Ascalon. They are also a religious authority, being traditionally considered a mouthpiece for Erathis upon Materia, taking place in many ceremonies and religious events.
