Storm Wolf

Lurking in the region of Fulgur a powerful predator hunts. This large wolf can be distinguished from its kin by its size and its fur patterns and markings, which has been tinged yellow as if it had lightning coursing through it.

As with all wolves, the Storm wolf is dangerous in a pack but even just one of these elemantally adapted beasts could prove to be a major threat. One should take care when travelling, when the air starts sparking with electricity or if your hair stands on end its a sure warning that one of these beasts are on your trail.

Anatomy

Slightly larger than that of its ancestor and kin, the Storm Wolf has become attuned with the nature around it. The defining feature of this wolf is the yellow lightning like patterns and markings that run throughout the fur. Not made for long distance running, its powerful muscles and static abilities can combine for a quick take down.

Biological Traits

Tendency to isolate, or be the Alpha in a pack. Fur can range from brown-grey-white all with differing yellow patterns and markings.

Genetics and Reproduction

The storm trait is not an easy one to pass down through genetics although being extremely well suited for the terrain. It can reproduce with its other wolf kin (dire or regular) but the litter for Storm wolves is smaller than a regular wolf's and Storm Wolves only reproduce after a long period of maturation. If a Storm Wolf has a litter it must wait 5 years so as to raise its offspring, as baby Storm Wolves need much care so that their electrical nature does not damage or kill them.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Storm Wolf has a lifespan of 60-80 years in optimal conditions as they have some natural magic enhancing its lifespan. Its growth rate has also slowed down in comparison to that of regular wolves. A Storm wolf reaches full maturity at 15 years of age but can be left to fend for itself without a parent at 8 years. It is reproductive only between the ages 30-50 (for a lifespan of 60 years, it is 30-65 for those for have a longer lifespan).

Not many have been studied in their later life stages so not much is known but it is theorized that they remain quite powerful, even drawing more electrical currents into its body until it destroys them.

Ecology and Habitats

This species is optimal in Fulgur or any other places of extreme storms. The Storm Wolf tends to find caverns or any other area where it can be isolated. It has been pushed back from hunters and tends not to be a social creature.

Dietary Needs and Habits

A carnivorous animal, the Storm wolf hunts and stalks its prey. It uses its lightning abilities to stun prey while its powerful jaws and claws rip through their target to leave them unable to escape. It is a burst hunter and can not hunt for extended periods of time. The Storm Wolf is not one to hunt for fun however exceptions are made in every species.

Biological Cycle

The Storm wolf does not need to hibernate, however due to its electrical nature the beast does shed its fur often. Some who have studied the creature have witnessed a major shedding in the early spring and late summer-early autumn to prepare its coats for the differing temperatures.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Lending to its name, crackling electrical currents run through the wolf's fur giving it the ability to absorb lightning and use it in short bursts to stun its prey. The Storm wolf can also emit a thunderous howl which can be heard from leagues away. Legends say the howl can rip a man apart. Being a wolf it has extremely keen hearing and smell
