Compass
Industry & Trade
The Compass kept itself alive by being where everyone went to make and spend money. They set themselves up as a hub of commerce and trade, and the people came. They came, and that was what eventually killed them.

History
Founding
Around the time the Empire was formed, the small fishing town began making a push for commerce, adding exports of cloth as well as fish and oil. From this they began accumulating wealth, which they put into expanding across the island, building up the town into a city centered around a large market and shipyard. From there, they continued to gather wealth, as their reputation as the jewel and pride of Brosha spread. They hosted the Pheaceton nobility's vacations, pirates' need for their markets, travelling merchants and humble fishers.
The Tidal Wave
When Kantmai erupted, Compass was the one to suffer for it most in Brosha. The people recognised the beginnings of the wave that would destroy their work as the tides receded. Those that had a way to escape did, taking others and stuffing tiny boats with far too many people as they fled the retreating tide and growing wave. Those that couldn't leave watched the ocean, black with falling ash, summon a tidal wave larger than any they'd seen before, sixty feet high and dwarfing their city entirely.
When the wave hit, it swept over the island entirely, taking every building and ship still in harbor with it. When the water receded, nothing was left of Compass besides a few pieces of foundations still rooted in the ground, and the sinkholes where basements and entrances to vaults had been.
