Early Life
I used to turn barrels of fish over into the harbor. Never felt right, watching all those little things still alive, squirming and thrashing. Thought, no one will need that much fish. No reason to let them die on the off chance some rich fuck would buy some.
Jules was born in the fishing district of Hueros in 1608. His mother died from consumption when he was seven, and he was forced into the streets, living under the market where the other beggars and homeless lived. He took to causing chaos for guardsmen and nobility, often stealing food for the others he lived with.
Move to Brosha
At age 12 he snuck onboard a ship heading south to Brosha. During their path through a part of the Antarta known for violent mer attacks, he was discovered during a storm. As an attempted offering, he thrown overboard. The action backfired spectacularly, after several younger ocean mer investigated him and the elder ones turned vicious at the attempted murder of a child. They tore the ship apart, and Jules was left clinging to a crate.
The Royal Navy, heading up to Gostary, picked him up and would drop him at Turrica with some money and someone's old jacket.
Finding Work
Well, I'll have you know I was caught burning down a church. After the five other buildings. And the shed. --Jules when asked about his imprisonment
Jules struggled to find work, lacking most skills needed for legitimate jobs. He turned to the underworld of the city, working as hired muscle, a burglar, and an assistant to a loan shark in rapid succession. He only found his calling when he was hired to burn down a store, and became a prolific firebug. After a series of fires he was finally caught and arrested. After a short stay in a city jail he was sent to Brosha to one of the prison islands for an indefinite sentence.
