The War of Betrayal

The War of Betrayal 51 TA - 53 TA, as termed by the Dragonfolk, was a brief but violent war in the wake of the collapse of the Rozani Republic.
Unbenknownst to the Dragonborn, a secret compact had been struck between the Dominion and the Infernals, vowing to split their land between them after the war was over and to eradicate what was left of the Dragonborn. They viewed them as less than them, weak and easy pickings. Ironic one might say, if considering how the belligerence against the Rozani ignited itself.
In digression, the exhausted Draconic peoples were beaten, driven to the base of Mount Orsimer with nought but a skeleton of an army left and reserves of food, water and equipment running dry. Legend has it that the Ascendants pled with every dragon god under the suns, from Bahamut to Tiamat, to pledge themselves to their cause and allow them to sweep the Helvenic and Infernal scourge from their lands. According to the legend, their prayers were answered, in the form of Wyvern riding.
Combat like it had never been seen before, magic from the air, bolts raining down on exposed heads, sowing chaos in unprepared lines, ripping unwitting abjurers of armies and diviners of enemies from their exposed positions and tearing them to shreds. Blinded, scattered, the Dominion and the Infernals were forced to run, their machines of war and magic were unprepared for aerial assault.
And yet, the Dragonfolk, in all their remaining wrath, pushed hard and far, reclaiming the Greengrass Plains for their own, playing terror to any Dwarf who dared oppose the new government. Any Helvenic sympathiser, soldier or suspect was sent east or hanged. To the north, their war against the Infernals raged, driving them to the city of Atmor. It is unknown what exactly happened at Atmor, perhaps only to the strategists of the Infernals and those lucky Draconic soldiers who escaped, though the maelstrom of magic and death that enveloped the city over those weeks left the land scarred, infertile and a deathly shade of... purple.
Cowed by such magic and happy to come to terms after nearly fifty years of war - the Ascendancy came to the table with the Dominion and the Infernals. After lengthy discussion, diplomacy and more fighting, they agreed to cease their war and formed their modern borders, with the Dragonborn returning the city of Kinkalora to the Dominion and agreeing not to set one soldier foot in the city of Atmor.
This conflict is still fresh in the mind of many Dragonborn, though none are old enough to have fought in it, it is a widely taught subject in schools, handed down by word of mouth and often a contentious point between the large Dwarven population in the Ascendancy and the Draconic majority.
