Deyok

Deyok was once in the middle of a forest in the nestled foothills of the mountains, with nothing around it for miles, just like the rest of the expanse. After a time, a small settlement arose when an adventuring party built a keep there, mysteriously supplied even in the wilderness. Others flocked to them, and soon the tiny village became the eastern outpost in an untamed continent. It continued to grow as other cities along the coasts sprung up, creating trade routes to Deyok for its enchanted goods. At some point, the records are unclear when, the secret about the Changing Gate and the city's connection to the Feywild became an open one, and eventually more formal trade was established. It was around this time the Summer and Winter Queens brought their power and influence to Deyok, and the city prospered. Now, it covers more land than any other city, and the influence of the Feywild creates all sorts of unusual - and some say unholy - unions of magic and matter. The city is diverse, drawing people from all over the continent and all of Meiris. The temptation of magic and fortune to often too much to pass up, and expeditions into the Cauningbog are frequently mounted from here.

Government

The city is ruled by the Summer and Winter Queens in turn. Powerful fey, their influence is felt by all in the city, and can be seen in the appearance of the Changing Gate. The Sevenfold Council, led by the Lord Rector, divides up the day to day work of running the city and its extensive trade network. The Council is made up of four elected lords and ladies, and three that are appointed by the Queens (needless to say the appointees are in a precarious position each time the Queens change over).

Geography

Deyok is nestled into the crook of the Gaulmond Peaks, a natural source of limestone, marble, and granite that has created a rather lucrative mining trade for the city. The water that flows down from the mountain springs - the Elmwhisk - is said to combine with a river that flows through the gate, though there is no geographic evidence of this. Still the influence of the Gate's magic can be seen in the regions around. A few of the miners claim that the deep mountains are still rooted in blue residuum, and that this could be the cause of the magical effects.

Natural Resources

Creatures and plants of the Feywild can be cultivated and kept within the direct influence of the city, and some of the heartier varieties can continue to exist in the floodbanks of the Elmwhisk. A common bright blue flower used by midwives, the weeping driod plant is said to hum softly in a pitch that only animals can hear.
