Wraith

Neither living or dead, wraiths are spectral, ghostly beings consumed by sadness and hatred that may be found wandering Människar. Bound to the mortal realm, all wraiths were once people that, for one reason or another, became cursed, doomed to roam the land, with little trace of their former selves and fueled by any unresolved feelings they might had in life. Abandoned brides, orphan children and betrayed friends, once dead their souls are stubborn to break free and instead, they linger inside corpses. The flesh becomes corrupted, as does the soul, meat and bone slowly decay and expose the cursed, terrible spirit that was left behind. Devoid of conscience, they cling to the only thing left to them, their pain, sorrow, anger. The wraith rises from its remains and starts roaming the surrounding area, tied to their belongings, their former homes, or even to those they used to know. 

Wraiths show no sign of remorse and are always violent, for the spirit grows more and more confused as it lingers in the mortal realm and progressively, any feeling left to them is replaced by woe and fury, in which the spirit attacks any who might approach or attempt to communicate with them. Their forms are insubstantial, veiled in a shroud of  either shadow or paleness that absorbs and distorts the light around them, making it difficult to properly stare at one. 

Some may carry weapons, belongings of their past, but one isn't needed in order for them to do harm upon the living, for they possess the ability to drain the life of mortals or even possess their bodies temporarily. They can induce fear in the bravest of warriors and leave the mind scarred forever. 

Finally, because they aren't fully material beings, ordinary weapons are, most of the time, useless against wraiths, and holy artifacts, spells and prayers may be necessary in order to fight one. Still, wraiths can hardly be killed without very powerful magic, so defeating one is often a temporary means of getting rid of the spirit, and so, if one wishes to vanquish the wraith for good, rituals and careful incantations might be necessary to either free or trap the being.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are almost exclusively found in cold environments or buried deep into tombs, as the sun is a powerful deterrent against them. 

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Although most can see, they barely rely on their sight to spot and attack the living, as they possess an innate capability to sense their life force.
