Warforged

Warforged are automata built by ancient Telethians. Warforged remains have been found all over the world throughout recorded history. No operational examples have been found, but various institutions across the world have managed to restore partial functionality to all extant models. Despite these limited successes, Warforged operational principals are poorly understood, as is the case with most Telethian technology.

Naming

The term Warforged comes from translations of Annan Teleth carvings, first deciphered in the Age of Discovery by the Ancient Starcrest Civilization. Modern scholarship suggests that Telethians did not actually use these constructs for war for the most part, and have proposed various alternative names - Secret Keepers, Avatars, Annan Teleth Metal Golums, among others. Some names, such as Secret Keepers and Avatars, are based on translated Telethain texts, while names like Annan Teleth Metal Golum are more academic descriptions in nature.

History

All extant Warforged remains date to the Age of Divinity, during the time the Telethians were active. Only a single example dates from the 2nd century AD, but thousands of examples have been recovered dating from the 3rd through 10th centuries AD. This early example does not match other Warforged models from the archaeological record, and appears to be some sort of early experimental model. In the 3rd century AD, when Warforged first appear in large numbers, they tend to follow a basic body template - a metal body approximately 1.5m tall, weighing approximately 120kg. As the 3rd century AD came to a close, Warforged husks begin to appear much more often, and show the first signs of specialization.    In the last century of the Age of Divinity, the Telethians seem to have constructed Warforged in ever larger numbers. When the Telethians disappeared from the archaeological record after the Sundering, so did the Warforged.
