Undeath
"Undeath" is a condition horrid for any living thing. Despite that, there are many that become undead willingly or even cause the condition to others. This unnatural state is dangerous and often terrible to watch.
There are several types of undeath which can be further divided into subgroups. But the main groups are:
- Animated undeath
- Corporeal undeath
- Incorporeal undeath
- Partial undeath
Some creatures suffering "corporeal undeath" (like those suffering from Vampirism or liches) might be able to take incorporeal forms for short periods of time, but they eventually go back to their corporeal forms.
Transmission & Vectors
Undeath can be caused by several factors, some of them transferring ones. Not all undead are able to pass down their condition, but those who do often achieve this by killing their victim. The state of Undeath might also be done through different types of rituals, often requiring a blood sacrifice.
Most typical forms of undeath, however, are either coming from negative pollution on a certain place (like by being a scene of particularly bloody and horrifying events or by point having a particularly thin veil between it and the Shadowfell or person dying during very traumatizing conditions.
Causes
The forms of undeath all have their quirks, but as a thumb rule, undeath is caused by a vessel of a soul dying and either the soul getting trapped of the material plane, or several shreds of already past souls forming a Pseudo-soul that animates a dead corpse. As a result, spirit and/or the body lingers longer than it was supposed to, and starts to get corrupted by the unsuitable state it is in.
Most souls do not respond well by being stuck to the prime material plane for longer than they were supposed to, causing the deadly nature typical to most undead.
Symptoms
Creatures suffering from undeath are simply put, dead (or in some very rare cases, just partialy dead). Their vital organs have stopped working or are just partly functional (if they even have any), and thus they have transcendent the needs and limitations of their mortal bodies. At least sort of.
