Kingdom on the Brink - Session 33
General Summary
The party goes their separate ways for the day, Stormsong buys some scrolls of invisibility and attempts to sneak into the cultist hideout (She feels guilty about how she handled to conversation with Arryn) that the party scouted out in Kingdom on the Brink - Session 32, she's not too stealthy and raises several alarms (Getting hit by Faerie fire at one point). She eventually makes it in and charms one of the cultists, she looks for Bernard Ursel and runs into a Abjurer, he says something to her in draconic which Stormsong doesn't understand and speaks in elvish which blows her cover. The Abjurer banishes Stormsong and when she comes back she's surrounded, Stormsong starts to flee and is being pursued, getting hit a few times. She closes the door and sets it on fire, a lot of fire, the Herald of Darkness continues to chase Stormsong. Stormsong loses her tail and realizes the entire building is on high alert and she flees, she sets the building roof on fire but the cultists get it under control. During this time Runsha goes to find out if Arryn will help the party find Horatius Dragomir, Runsha waits a awhile and then Stormsong returns. Stormsong is evasive with Runsha and eventually says she screwed up and pissed Arryn off, Runsha goes back to try and smooth things over, through some persuasion Runsha convinces her to help (Grudgingly). Arryn tells him someone will get in contact with him, on the 4th day of Rugos the party converges on the location. The party enters the building and find Horatius Dragomir, Gathia Stormstalker and two other Eastbrook provincial council members. Runsha tells the audience that they need to make a move on Ricard Bridgeford, he believes that it's Bernard's only hope. There's some back and forth and the council is hesitant because there will be severe consequence with outright rebellion against a nobleman representing the kingdom of Bralor. Runsha argues that Bernard can't afford inaction, the council eventually agrees, and tells the party to be ready at noon. At this time Ashara finds the rest of the party, Del Varis greets her and is glad she's back from the dead, She enters the building and the party asks what happened to her. Ashara says the cultists were trying to transform her into something but she bit her tongue off and choked on it, finding herself reborn outside the city. Runsha uses insight and doesn't perceive and lying from her, the party leaves and and sets up in the location Horatius told them to. At noon the bells go off and the party starts to see smoke going up in parts of the city and hear commotion around them, house Bridgeford troops start to thin out in the area to deal with the uprising.
The party moves up the street when they encounter two archers, a blackguard, an assassin, and two mages (Enchantress and Eonic Savant). The Eonic Savant launches a fireball into the middle of the party but most are able to evade, both groups begin to advance, the party stays inside Runsha's aura which hinders the ability for the mages to magically disrupt them. The Enchantress casts greater invisibility on the assassin and the archers mark both Gareth and Runsha and begin to launch volleys into them (landing several damaging hits), Runsha casts shield of faith on himself and continues forward. Ashara, Tia, Gareth, and Stormsong return the volleys with arrow and fire while Hendred blesses the party. Some of the arrows strike the Enchantress which drops the invisibility on the assassin, revealing his position next to Del Varis, the Blackguard moves up and attempts to hit Runsha but fails due to his dodging. The Eonic Savant starts to chip away at Del Varis with some magic missiles and Del Varis and Hendred and start to lay into the assassin. The archers continue to fire into Gareth and Runsha, while the blackguard strikes Hendred, nearly landing a critical hit but is glances off thanks to Runsha. The Enchantress tries to debuff the party but her magic is unable to overcome the party's resistance, the Eonic Savant attempts to give Ashara disadvantage on her attacks but thwarted several times and then launches an upcasted magic missile but Ashara uses the shield spell to absorb every dart. Ashara strikes the Eonic Savant and Del Varis kills the Assassin, Hendred engages the Blackguard and using her inflict wound spell she is able to melt the flesh off the Blackguard which strikes him down. The party then splits and chases down the remaining opposition One of the Archers manage to down Gareth, after Gareth had hit several times with firebolt, Hendred moves to assist and heals Gareth. Ashara and Runsha move to take down the casters, the Enchantress manages to land a hit with her Rapier which causes more damage then what was expected but Runsha and Ashara strike her down. Del Varis moves to engage the archer that was firing at Runsha, during this time the Eonic Savant Dimension door's away, leaving two archers. Tia, Gareth, Hendred, and Ashara move on the archer and after the archer misty steps the group manage to make it over the fence and strike him down. Del Varis and Runsha have a little more Issues with their archer as he Misty stepped onto a roof but Del Varis tosses the archer off the roof and Runsha finishes him off. The party quickly searches the bodies as Runsha observes the state of the immediate city, noticing more smoke and the some spells going into the air. The party grabs their horses and rushes through the city, passing several enclaves of fighting.
The party comes across a group blocking their way, it appears to be led by a nobleman of some sort. The Cult Sorcerer hastes the nobleman and the Abjurer launches a fireball into the party that hits everyone but Del Varis. Tia and Ashara begin to fire at the Cult Sorcerer and Abjurer, making the Sorcerer lose concentration on haste, Abjurer avoids the hits due to casting shield. Hendred launches guiding bolt at the war priest and Runsha and Del Varis move up, the Abjurer launches a magic missile at Runsha and the War Priest casts spirit guardians on himself while the Cult Sorcerer casts guardian of faith in the area. Tia, Stormsong, and Ashara continue to cover the advance, causing the Abjurer to use its shield spell again. Del Varis moves up and stuns the Abjurer but is quickly engaged by the nobleman who manages to land a strike, Runsha moves forward and Dispels the spirit guardians on the war priest, the sorcerer attempts to banish Stormsong but fails and Hendred moves to the war priest, taking a blast from the Guardian of Faith and strikes with her warhammer and summons her spiritual weapon against the Abjurer. The Sorcerer casts slow, but is only able to get Ashara and the Noble continues to strike at Del Varis with his posion blade. The War Priest casts mass cure wounds and closes in on Runsha, Hendred heals up Ashara and is struck again by the guardian of Faith as she moves out of it's reach, another guardian of faith is brought into the fight and the Abjurer casts another magic missile at Runsha. The Noble moves to attack Ashara and strikes her, but she is able to resist the posion to a degree, Runsha closes in on the Sorcerer and strikes true, but the as a reaction the sorcerer expends a spell slot to deal a lot of necrotic damage on Runsha. Del Varis kills the Abjurer and the Cult Sorcerer gets struck by Runsha as he runs towards the nobleman, He teleports away with the noble, leaving the War Priest. The War Priest casts spirit guardians and slowly saps HP away from the party and lands some powerful strikes but is eventually overpowered by the party. The party searches the bodies and Runsha notices that more and more chaos is erupting through the city. Ashara finds a catnap potion and gives it to Hendred which allows her to get a short rest in, the party continues on to the mansion Ricard Bridgeford is staying in.
The party enters the mansion and find a Champion, the Noble and the Cult Sorcerer. Tia and Stormsong fly up to the second floor and focus on the Sorcerer, the Sorcerer casts Deathward on the noble and stays in the back, the Champion moves up and engages Ashara and Runsha, the Noble moves to the other side and gets engaged by Del Varis. Runsha and Ashara strike the Champion but realize he's not taking as much damage as he should of, the Cult Sorcerer casts spirtual weapon and uses it on Del Varis but misses due to Del Varis dodging, The noble also attempts to hit but fails. Hendred casts sacred flame but the noble dodges it, the Champion realizes there's an opportunity and uses his acid breathe attack, he misses Runsha but hits Hendred (who evades it for half damage), the champion then uses second wind to heal. Runsha lands several more attacks and shoves the champion around, the Sorcerer continues to be targeted by Tia and Stormsong and the Sorcerer uses it's spiritual weapon on Del Varis and misses with a guiding bolt. Del Varis and the Nobleman continue to exchange blows. The fight continues to be slogged out, the Champion lands two criticals on Ashara and Del Varis is able to stun the Noble and Stormsong casts command on the Champion ordering him to halt, Hendred heals the party and closes in on the noble. Tia kills the Sorcerer and focus on the Noble, after another exchange of blows the Hendred crits the noble and the Champion recharges his breathe weapon but Stormsong is able to command him to grovel, Allowing Runsha and Ashara to finally end the champions threat.
