Kingdom on the Brink - Session 35
General Summary
The party continues to assist the Eastbrook coalition in preparing for the horde. Duromar and Gareth helped train more people in martial abilities, Hendred and Del Varis help heal and feed the sick and malnourished, Ashara helps come up with supplies, and Stormsong helps increase the morale of the coalition. Ashara meets with Salwor and explains they need to use his airship to find the Phalactory of Kalzoz (Hendred's backsory), Salwor agrees and Ashara goes to gather the party to meet with Salwor. Hendred explains that she knows where the Phalactory was but can't confirm if it's still there, the group decides to risk it and go to the last known location of the Phalactory. on the 26th day of Rugos the group sets out to Oshon Coalition and Kalzoz's old sanctum, they spend 3 days traveling. Once they arrived to the general area Hendred starts to retrace her steps and make their way to the base of the mountain, on their journey they come across a Bone Devil and a Thornheart Guardian. Hendred reaches back into her memory (despite not really wanting to revisit this time in her life) and while the Thornheart Guardian doesn't ring any bells the Bone devil does and she relays pertinent information about it to the party. Hendred blesses the party and Ashara takes out her longbow and fires at the Bone Devil, Stormsong and Gareth move up and unleash a barrage of Firebolt and eldritich blast as Del Varis moves up and dodges. The Thornheart Guardian and the Bone Devil begin to close the distance with the party while under fire from guiding bolts from Hendred, Del Varis and Gareth move up just out of striking distance of the Thornheart while Ashara and Stormsong continue to cover them. The Thornheart uses a ability to make magical thorny vines appear within a 20 foot radius of it, this causes Gareth to rethink closing into melee. Del Varis on the other hand decides to back up and use his step of the wind to clear the magical thorns and grapple the Thornheart, he's successful and manages to stun the Thornheart. The Bone Devil starts to strike Del Varis but thanks to Ashara's spirit guardians both its claws miss but the stinger strikes true, Stormsong tries to command the Bone Devil to Grovel but it resists. Ashara and Gareth focus on the Bone Devil while Hendred assists Del Varis with the Thornheart. Del Varis continues to keep the Thornheart stunned and is quickly killed, but unfortunately Del Varis is unable to clear its collapse and is trapped under it, the Bone Devil attempts to fly towards Ashara but Del Varis keeps it pinned thinks to his sentinel ability. As this is going on the party hear a loud crashing noise and see a gargantuan tree heading towards Hendred and begin to slam her. Gareth and Del Varis continue to focus on the Bone Devil while Ashara, Hendred, and Stormsong face the Treant, the Bone devil continues to strike Del Varis as he is unable to free himself from under the destroyed construct. Stormsong hurls several Firebolts into the Treant setting it ablaze, after several more rounds Del Varis and Gareth finish off the Bone Devil and the Treant is consumed by the fire, the party quickly bandage up their wounds and examine the Thornheart. They find out it's creation is of fey magic and continue on to the base of the mountain.
As the party crests one of the rocky outcrops they see a path but it's guarded by a Roc and two red hags, Ashara advances and fires at the Roc while Stormsong blesses the party. The Roc flies towards the group at great speed and begins to evade the arrow fire. Arrow and magic is unleashed on the Roc but it quickly closes in and grapples Ashara with it's talons and flies a hundred feet into the air with her. The Hags close in on the party and Del Varis moves in to intercept them while the rest of the party concentrates on the Roc to help Ashara. The Hags attempt to entangle Del Varis but are unsuccessful, Ashara breaks free of the grapple and clings to the bird as it tries to shake her off and it begins to climb higher. Stormsong keeps in range of the Roc thanks to her boots of levitation and broom of flying and continues to hurl fire at it, the rest of the party on the ground begins to focus on the hags. Del Varis attempts to stun both but is unsuccessful and one moves to the center of the group and starts a blood siphoning aura that begins to slowly deal necrotic damage to Gareth, Del Varis, and Hendred. Gareth and Hendred take up flanking positions on the hag with the aura while Del Varis keeps the second hag away, and they begin to trade blows. In the air the Roc is slowly starting to burn from Stormsong's Firebolts but it stays in flight while trying to peck and force Ashara to fall off from 200 feet. Hendred yells at Ashara to jump, that'll she'll be fine, so Ashara jumps and aims for the Hag, against all odds Ashara manages to lands on the Hag and crushes her against the rock, this leaves most of Ashara's bones broken but Hendred uses her channel divinity and heals the group from both the fall damage and the blood siphon. The Roc speeds towards Stormsong but she evades and flies towards the other hag and hurling quickened spells, the party moves to help Del Varis against the other Hag which starts it's blood siphon but the party quickly kills her in melee. The Roc close in on the party but with their full force they're able to kill it in it's weakened state before it can fly off with another member. The party short rests and continue on.
The party finds a cave entrance with leads towards the Sanctum, Hendred is apprehensive about going in but summons the will to continue on, but before they can get closer the party notices a Beholder at the entrance and it starts to hover towards them. Ashara moves up and fires a few arrows into it and Stormsong moves and attempts to launch a Firebolt, but her magic withers in her hands. The Beholder hovers closer and since Stormsong is the only one in sight the Beholder launches three rays at her (Paralyzing ray, death ray and petrification ray) all 3 hit and she begins to turn to stone. The party spreads out and stays in cover as best they can, Stormsong is unable to resist being petrified and turns to stone (flipping off the Beholder before the process completes). Del Varis and Hendred move up which gives the Beholder a line of sight, But Hendred is able to dodge the disintegrate ray and Del Varis resists both the fear ray and the death ray. Del Varis closes the distance and is able to stun the Beholder and shouts that the group needs to deal as much damage as possible because he had no idea how long he can keep it that way. Gareth attempts to launch a rock with his catapult spell but it fails due to the antimagic field. Ashara moves and hacks with her longsword while Hendred hits it with sacred flame, Del Varis keeps it stunned and the party continue strike it. Del Varis is unable to keep it stunned but in a final effort he uses flurry of blows which finally drops the Beholder. Hendred uses greater restoration to depetrifiy Stormsong.

Stormsong's performance recounting the deeds of the party has inspired the populace, hunting and foraging parties stayed out longer and brought in more food and decreased the malnourished.
