Kingdom on the Brink - Session 67

General Summary

The party starts to decide on the strategy to assault three of the encampments, during this time they hear a siren howl and an explosion from Del Varis' room. They go to investigate; Merigold kicks down the door. Before them they see a cloaked figure, Merigold runs and shoves him with her shield, shouting for the intruder to identify themselves. The figure says they're name is Knott Noble, and then asked what the party did with the Del Varis, this confuses them and say he was taken by people coming through a portal. Knott says that Del Varis must be still alive, for now, he was taken by the order he belongs with to undergo some trials. Knott then enquires about the party, when he sees Merigold, he asks if she's the one whose wife is dead, which confuses her, saying she's just missing. Knott sees Rosemary and asks if that's her wife, which she confusedly says no. He asks if Duromar is the angry dwarf, Rosemary says that dwarfs are all grumpy so that doesn't reveal new information. Knott looks around and asks Uriel if he's the horse summoner, Uriel approaches and says he is and asks who Knott is. Knott is standoffish asking for Uriel to confirm his name, after a tense moment, Knott removes his mask, revealing he is a satyr. Uriel remarks Knott is from the feywild, Rosemary and Merigold start to converse with Knott that goes on for a while. Uriel realizes they need to meet up with Grankaross and Reinoldus, he takes Duromar and Amber Kerogen and leaves behind the rest of the party. Knott pulls out some sausages for Gregori, who happily takes the gift.

Uriel, Amber, and Duromar make it to the meeting with Reinoldus and Grankaross, Uriel says they have an unknown variable, that seems like they can be trusted; but it changes things. He says he wants to divide up their forces into three groups, the giants with Duromar would go after the largest encampment. Reinoldus with Uriel and some Arbitors would go after the command camp. and Knott, Rosemary, Merigold, and Amber would hit the area that holds the bandit's loot. He has his mount, Ashara, fly Reinoldus to area around the camp so they can bypass the watchtower with a teleport spell. They decide they'll attack after sunset. The party reconvenes and starts to prep for their attack, during this time Duromar makes some offhand remarks about Grankaross, Merigold takes out her sending stone to try and warn Grankaross about potential advances from Duromar. Uriel tries to grab the stone and the message comes up garbled, Grankaross and Lord Valeros message with their sending stones asking if everything is alright. Rosemary responds that it's a false alarm, Merigold and Duromar are having a lover's quarrel. Reinoldus sends a message on his sending stone, he has a good recon of the area is heading back, he also says that Duromar and Merigold should wait until after they have stabilized Bralor before fighting. The party splits and head to their targets.

Duromar and the giants run across a patrol, Duromar casts darkstar and the giants surround the spell, killing anyone who attempt to exit. Duromar finishes off the archer with an upcasted scorching ray. They find the main encampment, it's surrounded by a moat, Duromar uses wish to cast darkstar again, this causes the encampment to start rushing Duromar and the Giants. The giants start to toss rocks into the mass of bandits, Duromar casts erupting earth to slow their advance. The giants continue to hurl rocks at the slowed encampment. More patrols arrive but Duromar slows their advance as well, the giants make short against these reinforcements. After the bandits are dealt with, they loot the camp and find about 400 potions and some gold, they head to the linkup point.

Uriel and Reinoldus teleport to just outside their targeted camp with their arbitors, Uriel summons some mounts and they quickly scale the walls. Uriel and Reinoldus move to keep the leaders from escaping while the arbitors deal with the archers. Uriel uses his conquering presence to frighten the Evoker and Blackguard in place, a melee ensues but Reinoldus moves in and lands several mighty strikes. Uriel takes several blows, but he smites the Evoker down, Reinoldus strikes down the Blackguard. The Ouroban uses its devastate ability and land harder strikes on Uriel, Uriel smites it and has Reinoldus follow it up with a mighty swing. Reinoldus sees the Ouraban is weakened and finishes it off with power word kill. Uriel knocks out the War Priest, they are unsure what to do with given that they aren't sure if they can trust justice will be served, so Uriel runs him through with his sword. They loot the camp, finding some notes.

Rosemary, Merigold, Amber, Knott, and Gregori start to sneak up their target, trying to close in before they are spotted (there are several ballistas). Merigold flies over on her broom and falls to the ground and attempts to push the ballista off its mount, it barely moves so she action surges and tries again, it falls off the platform. Knott runs up and stuns the Ouroban and throws him off the bridge, Rosemary runs across the water and start throwing beads off her necklace of fireballs. Amber moves up and hurls eldritch blasts into the fray Gregori moves to support Merigold and the fight devolves into a melee, Rosemary throws more fireball which burn up the other ballistas, she the moves in and casts spirit guardians. Merigold and Rosemary get hit by several greatsword strikes but Amber kills the assassins and Knott moves in. The spirit guardians begin to shred the surviving enemies, the group strikes down the last opponent. They find cellar door and descend inside; Merigold triggers a bear trap and she sees there are other traps and marks them. They loot the room and link up with the other three groups.

The three groups meet up and start sharing information and splitting loot, Merigold talks to Grankaross privatley. She tells her that Duromar can be kind of a dick, but he's overall not a bad person. Uriel shows the party the notes they got from the bandit leaders:

"We have received new orders, it seems an…… Understanding has been arranged, we are not to concern ourselves with those that align with the Bridgeford’s, it is wasting too many of our resources. What they decide to do is of little concern, they can seek out all the old “wise” tomes and rituals they want. They are chasing a tall tale, meanwhile we have the Hallowed Ancient to guide us, right here and right now. This might even help us as their bumbling about divides the attention of others that oppose us.
The incident at her excellence’s residence has interesting timing, we didn’t think the old guard would be so bold, they must have been planning it for quite sometime. But it is too late, things are already in motion, make sure everyone has their potions. The main event will be held at the festival ground by the dam, we’ll be ready."


Duromar examines the potions he got and realizes the vast majority are potions of water breathing and water walking. They begin to think the Kalzoz faction is going to attempt some sort of flood at the festival grounds. They distribute the potions to their allies and they head back to the inn, Shia Boriz is there waiting for them. The party informs her of their success, she informs them that there has been further events that have been happening in their absence; there's been a break-in at the restricted section of the historic library, but you wouldn't have known unless you knew the area well enough to know something was missing. A manuscript was taken, she brings copies of some letters from a personal journal that was in the same section the stolen manuscript was in. The party reads the letter:


"We have spent much time dissuading the lost against false teachings, though it is easy to take hold after the calamity that has befallen the world. What is most curious about our travels is these large crystals that seem contain some sort of pulse, some sort of energy runs though it. The energy seems to have aspects of arcane, divine, and primordial magic, not quite fitting in any one category (there appears to be many spread all over the world). These crystals seem to be of interest to one specific splinter group, a group that claims there’s more then just 9 Dragons (How people believe this nonsense is anyone’s guess). They attempted to perform some sort of ritual using what could only be described as a keystone. I have also found a most curious sight, a near perfect skeletal image of the divine themselves. Of course it cannot be an actual skeleton, that would be heresy, the divine must of put it here as some sort of test. Maybe it’s a gift to better portray them in an honorable fashion? I have informed the order and they’ll take position of these artifacts."  

Shia says the Keystone referred to in the letter, and the draconic image were moved to the vaults in the Highsummit , she believes those are the next target of the Bridgeford faction. The party believes Bridgeford will make an attempt on the vault during the festivities coming up in 12 hours. The party is conflicted because one hand a lot of people could die, leaving potential corpses for Kalzoz, but on the other hand Bridgeford could get the keystone for some sort of nefarious purposes. They discuss several options to potentially halt festivities, but none are really a clean victory, Rosemary, Merigold, and Gregori scout out the festival grounds. There's a light watch and no sign of explosives to blow the dam, it seems they intend to just open the floodgates. They return and it's decided the majority of the party will go to the vault, Uriel and whatever allies the party has made will go to the festival to stop the flooding. Uriel escorts Shia home she reveals she is a magic user. The party long rests.
It is mid-morning on the 3rd day of the festival of creation 2517 AGF
