Kingdom on the Brink - Session 9

General Summary

The party begins their journey to Stathmor, during the first three days Oneiro attempts to practice with his dragon mark with varying results and Hendred has another vivid dream. On the fourth day the party finds a groups of orcs standing out the mouth of a cave, the group decides to clear out this pocket of resistance and attempt to ambush the group, the ambush failed but the group still kills the orcs with relative ease. They begin to search the area and Oneiro finds a human corpse with some goggles and a potion, there's also a note stating that there was a group of adventurers who entered the cave that have some finely crafted items. The group decides to explore the cave and head further in, they find a large chamber with six giant spiders and start to attack, Ashara and Hendred get webbed and struggle to get free while Oneiro provides covering fire. Ashara gets free and begins to help Hendred, the tide begins to turn in favor of the party, a spider bites Ashara which causes her to go down and not come back up. Hendred clears out the final spider, she turns to Ashara and figures out that do to the spider poison Ashara is paralyzed and casts lesser restoration, the group explores the main passage and sees that there's a bunch of dead orcs. They short rest and decide to head to the northern passage. The group comes across some weird puddles of ooze, Thorne notices that the ooze can move but doesn't think anything of it, the ooze then slowly work their way towards Thorne. The party attack the oozes, defeating them, but leaving them somewhat perplexed. They look around the room and notice that the floor near the walls are covered with purple mushrooms, a few of the party members collect some. Hendred notices that there's some water in the corner that looks peculiar and goes to investigate, four gelatinous cubes form and proceed to move towards her, she attempts to get out of the way but gets engulfed. The party attempts to free her, with Ashara able to pull her out, but Thorne ends up engulfed at one point as well. Thorne manages to get himself free a short while later and the party disperses and slowly destroy the gelatinous cubes, after the fight Oneiro finds a ring of water walking, the party decides to long rest.

The party head towards the western passage and come across another intersection with an underground creek, Ashara moves further and finds four giant spiders, the party moves to attack with Oneiro staying back. After several rounds three blue and white spiders appear one near Oneiro and two behind Ashara and Hendred, one giant spider manages to web Hendred. Oneiro manages to get away from the blue spider by banishing it and he moves to another position, The other two blue spiders attack and then disappear. The party continues to attack the giant spiders when the two blue spiders appear on either side of Oneiro and attempt to bite him, the fight continues on with the blue spiders alternating between disappearing and reappearing, with the party finally defeating them and then burning the bodies. The group head towards the northern passage, Hendred takes the lead and finds two wall fissures on either side of the path, Ashara further investigates and find a black ooze that begins to seep out of the cracks and begins to attack. The group gets split up and Thorne and Ashara attempt to attack the oozes with their swords, which has no noticeable affect other then to make more oozes, they also find that when the ooze attacks it damages their armor. The bigger ooze proceeds towards Oneiro while the two smaller oozes heads towards Ashara, Hendred, and Thorne. Thorne and Hendred focus on the smaller oozes with damage being caused to Hendred's warhammer due to corrosion, Ashara moves to help Oneiro get away from the bigger ooze. During the fight the group makes enough noise that attracts a pack of giant spiders, who proceed to head towards them along the ceiling. The party finishes off the oozes with a combination of banishing arrows and range attacks, they turn their attention to the spiders, making quick work of them as well. Oneiro walks to the other side of the chamber and finds some orc bodies that don't look like they died from the spiders, the bodies had been looted, he sets the bodies ablaze. Ashara also crosses the the chamber and finds another body that matched the other bodies and she proceeds to also burn it, the party decides to head back to the cave entrance to short rest and get the rest of the group to help.
