Empress' Kitchen
Within the Empress' courtyard in Tralb, on the far end from her chambers, lies the domain of Empress Haliyesan's personal chef. The Empress' kitchens consist of one main building and one smaller outbuilding, both of which were rebuilt to match the Empress' specifications. The main building, an attractive stone building with a pale beige exterior, is where most of the cooking takes place. Next to it is a small garden where the cooks grow their own herbs for the Empress' safety.
Amidst the pressures of life in the Hurani court, the Empress' kitchens are the one safe haven where her personal investigator- who is also her cousin- escapes to relax, sample the cooks' newest creations in peace and, occasionally, cook as well. One of the investigator's greatest pleasures is wandering through the herb garden, or relaxing on a bench inside the kitchen itself, enjoying the scent of baking bread, bubbling broths, sizzling meat... The fact that none of the dignified members of court would ever deign to step into the kitchen is just an added bonus, really.
Sensory & Appearance
After the start of her reign, the Empress redesigned the kitchen in a hexagonal shape, with pale cream walls covered in subtle geometric patterns. The main kitchen building is bright, with several large windows to let in sunlight. It is kept neat and clean at all times, a hub of controlled chaos.
Some would say it is far too extravagant and elaborate for a kitchen, but to the weary eyes of the Empress' cousin and investigator, this culinary haven is just right. The serene colouring of the room, the energetic atmosphere surrounding the cooks, the tantalising smells wafting from the cooking stations... it all comes together to make the Empress' kitchen the investigator's favourite place in the palace. It certainly doesn't hurt that the cooks' partiality to their Empress' cousin also makes them all too willing to hand over choice bits of food as they cook and place comfortable cushions at the corner of the room for their favourite guest.
