Devotary of Justice

The Devotary of Justice act as the court system of Mercadia. Priests of Justice are the judges, and the Winged act as investigators and lawyers for the prosecution and defense. When a person is the victim of a crime or wishes to sue another individual, this is reported to the Devotary of Justice to be assigned to a Priest for evaluation. As such, this devotary works closely with the Devotary of Protection, who act as the people's contact for law enforcement issues.
Once assigned to a Priest, the case is explained in court and the Winged begin their investigations.

Tenets of Faith

The Devotary of Justice believes that all accused have a right to an investigation into their defense, and all victims of crimes have a right to face their accused in a court. As such, the Winged of Justice work as both the investigators and the lawyers for their clients.

Priesthood

Priests of Justice rely on the results of their Winged's investigations to craft their judgements. Depending on the type of accusation, and whether it was brought before the priest through the Devotary of Protection, different judgements may be brought down on the accused. Priests learn these judgements while they are Winged acting as investigators.

Gaining Wings

Applicants to the Devotary of Justice must bring an investigation of their own design to a Priest of Justice for evaluation. These investigations vary- some applicants use the evidence of their own previous cases that they have compiled, others investigate local mysteries or rumors. The content of the investigation is judged- not the outcome. The devotary is aware young adults do not have access to active crimes, and encourages the investigation of rumors and legends.
