The Quemada Desert
The Quemada Desert stretches between the defined limits of Natdivida, Ammond, and Bergwerk on the continent of Osath. It is a wild desert, full of desert tribes, raiders, mercenaries and untold secrets buried beneath the sands.
The Quemada desert is a place where none travel willingly, more common and preferred travel method is by sea. Going around the continent rather than through the stretch of burnt orange desert sand that is nestled between the Natdividian Seraph Peaks, the Bergwerkian Vulcan Weibercroft, and the start of the rich forests of Ammond.
Geography
As expected by its name Quemada, burnt in old Kipenian, the deserts key characteristics are its heat and the burnt orange color of its sand.
It is an arid expanse of sand, with small outcroppings of orange sandstone that sticks out a weird angles, forming structures that cast strange and long shadows across the dunes.
As you approach the center of the desert, the dunes get larger. As if climbing the foothills to a mountain. There are no known water sources in the desert and very few known creatures and plants that call this place home.
Ecosystem
The main ecosystem is that of Insects and Lizards, strange ones at that. The smaller insects survive off of the civilizations that wander the desert, and the larger lizards and insects eat the smaller ones.
Scavenging is the main route of survival. Whether it is eating a Smoopas or Dabvoots that strayed from the pack or was put down by their herders, finding one of these is like striking gold.
The main location in the desert is the Sinaqua Canyon. It is a large canyon spanning 600+ miles from the Seraph Peaks to the ocean. This is where many of the animals and plants were located as there was a water source, but in age of man, the water supply has been drying up and the ecosystem has been diminishing.
Fauna & Flora
Dabvoots are large, fox-like creatures with large ears, big eyes, and fierce claws and teeth. It is thought to be distantly related to the Fennec foxes that can be found in the more rock-heavy areas of the desert. Dabvoots are utilized similar to hunting or riding horses in the other regions of the world.
Smoopas are giant, yak-like creatures with long horns that stretch outwards horizontally. They are very docile except when tempted to be otherwise. Their skin is like that of an elephants, and they have six legs. They are utilized like oxen, pulling carts and good for those who decide to brave the desert.
History
There was once a great river that flowed from the Seraph Peaks to the ocean. It formed the Sinaqua Canyon and filled the desert with life and water. The river was called Haya after the goddess the people of the desert believe created it.
In the past age of man, the river has been drying up. This has put increased pressure on the people of the desert causing it to become a lawless land full of desert raiders and mercenaries.
