The Knights Solar are the most skilled and trusted warriors in the Order Angelus. Tasked with defending Emperor Apollyo they stand forever watchful in his Imperial Palace to halt any threat that may be lurking in the shadows. On the battlefield few if any can match their ferocity and determination, for each Knight Solar has sworn to give their life for their Emperor.

Requirements

To become a Knight Solar an individual must first have achieved the rank of Knight Planetar and served the Order Angelus for a minimum of ten years.

Appointment

When a new Knight Solar is selected, it will usually be the most senior Knight Planetar, unless one of his subordinates has achieved an act of particular valor. They will then take part in the Ritual of Atonement with the other Knight Solars before Emperor Apollyo.

Duties

The Knight Solars sole duty is to the protection of their Emperor. They patrol the Imperial Palace and guard the Emperors treasures. On the rare occasion when the Emperor leaves the palace they act as his personal bodyguard.

Benefits

Knights Solar receive numerous benefits from their position. Every Knight Solar resides in the Imperial Palace and this means they have the highest quality of food and comfort in Aurum. Everything they could possibly desire is supplied to them by the Emperor.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Knights Solar are equipped with the finest weapons and arms of the Order Angelus. They wear adamantium versions of the iconic winged armor of the Order and wield adamantium greatswords, both of which have a plethora of magical enchantments supplied by the most skilled Artificers.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

As every Knight Solar is expected to lay down his life for the emperor, the only grounds for dismissal would be if a Knight Solar fled or abandoned his post. In the entire existence of the Order Angelus this has never occurred.

History

The first of the Knights Solar where the soldiers from Aurum who fought beside Apollyo in the Was of Redemption. As the wars progressed they became a renowned and effective elite combat unit. It was these men that founded the Order Angelus after the wars concluded.

Cultural Significance

A Knight Solar is held in the utmost reverence and fear in the empire other than the emperor himself. Tales of their skill in combat are known even beyond the empire and many forces would simply surrender when they appeared on the battlefield rather than face them.
