Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Gold

Golds favor having a single wyrmling at a time. Mates typically remain together to raise their children to adulthood. They then separate, finding another mate or returning in the next few centuries.

Silver

Dedicated parents, Silvers raise their clutches together often into their first or second century. They take a single mate in their lifetime though they often do not remain together throughout the years.

Copper

Coppers mate for life and enjoy the company of their partner on and off for decades. They raise clutches of eggs and the clutchmates remain friendly during their lifetime.

Bronze

Bronzes take one mate during their lifetime. Once they have found their mate they rarely separate. They often raise multiple clutches throughout their life and raise their children well into their third century.

Brass

Brass dragons mate and then separate. They may take many mates throughout their lifetime. They typically have a single child which is raised by one parent to adulthood.

Red

Reds mate and watch over a clutch together until they hatch. Surviving wyrmlings are separated and raised by a single parent.

Blue

Blues mate and raise one to two wyrmlings to adulthood together.

Green

Greens typically mate for life and raise one child to adulthood together before chasing their child away. Mates spend a large amount of time together even when not raising children.

Black

Blacks can barely stand to spend any time together so they mate and leave a small clutch of eggs to fend for itself.

White

Whites mate and then separate. One parent guards the eggs until they hatch and then leaves the wyrmlings to fight and fend for themselves.

Growth Rate & Stages

Egg Incubation: 2-3 years

Wyrmling: <5 years

Dragons are born walking and flying. They learn Draconic within their first year and can begin to pick up other languages during this time. Wyrmlings rely more on their ancestral memories and instincts to survive and are more animalistic than their elders.

Young: 5-100 Years Old

Dragons begin to learn extensively and develop their social intellect. Dragons may scope out potential territory and begin to develop their hoards. They become sexually mature during this time, around 50 years old. Dragons may begin to court their potential mates.

Adult: 100-800 Years Old

Intellect becomes fully developed during this time. Dragons find their own territory and build their hoards. Most dragons find their mate, lay their first clutch, and raise their young.

Ancient: 800-1000 Years Old

These dragons are settled into their territory, have large hoards, and have raised a few young. They may have another clutch during this time.

Wyrm: 1000-1250 Years Old

The latest reproductive period of a dragons life, though most do not have clutches during this time.

Great Wyrm: 1250-1500 Years Old

These dragons are no longer capable of reproduction.

Twilight: >1500 Years Old

Twilight dragons retreat to a secure location and enter a comatose state for hundreds of years, their body decaying as they sleep.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Gold

Gold dragons enjoy being helpful but have little tolerance for acts they deem evil. They are wise and fair in their judgement but are plagued by a grim seriousness.

Silver

People often find silver dragons the easiest to get along with. They are friendly with a thirst for knowledge and enjoy long scholarly discussions.

Copper

Copper dragons enjoy wit and humor but become annoyed if their jokes are not appreciated. They are particularly fond of bards for their knowledge of stories, riddles, and music.

Bronze

Bronze dragons prefer to observe before engaging in conversation. They are careful conversationalists and happy to hold a debate, though it is said that changing a bronze dragon’s opinion requires mental power equivalent to moving a mountain.

Brass

Brass dragons have been known to hold an audience captive for whole evenings simply to have a chat with them. They become offended if they think someone is bored by their conversation.

Red

Most red dragons only want to speak with someone if they have something to offer them. They are harsh critics and have been known to eat artists they found unworthy.

Blue

Blue dragons love flattery and will not tolerate insult. They respect loyalty and talent and will reward both appropriately.

Green

Green dragons enjoy a good battle of wits but hate to lose. A boring conversation is not a conversation worth having. They are silver-tongued and excellent manipulators.

Black

Very anti-social, Black dragons value their alone time and refuse to waste their time on meaningless conversation.

White

Talking to another creature for any reason tests a white dragon’s patience. They expect subservience but will acknowledge the superior power of another.
