Makhikten
History
Makhikten was purportedly founded by the first Sun Emperor, Sun Emperor Makhiktesh, and was thus named in his honor. Established in the Middle canyon where the two main tributaries of the Iterku River meet, Makhikten was fed by a through-line of plentiful trade, both from the northern Nakhti Savannah, the southern coast, and the eastern Shirmut Plateau, and thus quickly grew in population, wealth, and power befitting the capital of a then-growing empire.
Makhikten has faced a notable amount of social and economic strife during its nearly millennia-long existence, but especially so in more recent centuries thanks to the fall of the empire. Social strife in particular is at a peak, ever since the end of The Firebird War, and the Sun Emperors beginning with Sun Emperor Tukhtan onward instituting and promoting a general distrust and fear of Mythborn.

Architecture
The architecture of Makhikten is almost completely stone, often carved directly into the walls of the canyon. Buildings are often constructed in terraces on top of each other, with ladders and staircases connecting each layer. Windows are high in the walls, and windows and doorways are most commonly found as rounded archways.
Geography
Makhikten is located in the Middle Canyon along the Iterku River, where the river’s two main tributaries meet. Most of the city proper is built into the canyon walls.
