Torithian Federals
The standard currency for the Torithian Federation, and now the primary medium of exchange in large markets around central Mezia, Torithian Federals--colloquially nicknamed Slips or Blues--are a representative currency backed by a gold standard based on the Federation’s considerable gold supply.
All Federals have their denomination printed on the far left side, with the official lighthouse seal of the Torithian Federation printed on the far right, and the name "The Torithian Federation" and the federal motto on the top and bottom borders respectively. The dimensions of each Federal is directly related to its denomination, with the higher-value denominations being of bigger sizes as follows:
Appearance
Torithian Federals are small pieces of specialized paper, no bigger than an extended hand, dyed a particular shade of vibrant blue. The specific shade was picked partly as a symbol of trustworthiness and of trade via the oceans, but also partly because that’s what shade the specific dye’s composition results in. Because of the dye’s importance in identifying these banknotes as genuine and not counterfeit, the formula for the dye is top secret and the dye itself and similar dyes are illegal to manufacture. That doesn’t stop well-made counterfeits from being printed, as some very close dyes have been invented. All Federals have their denomination printed on the far left side, with the official lighthouse seal of the Torithian Federation printed on the far right, and the name "The Torithian Federation" and the federal motto on the top and bottom borders respectively. Dreds
For values less than one Federal, minted bronze coins called Dreds--colloquially nicknamed Chips--are used. These come in .01, .05, and .20 denominations, with their value printed on one face of the coin, opposite the Torithian lighthouse seal.Manufacturing process
Federals are printed in federal minting facilities in Torith, using special ink made just for the banknotes that is illegal to use elsewhere. From there, they are distributed to federal banks across the country.
