The Crucible of Obrator
The shrine is an ancient pilgrimage site located far to the north dedicated to the God of War, Obrator. Its location was incredibly difficult and challenging to get to. The purpose of this was because Obrator was attributed as being most impressed by people who triumphed over mortal threats. The pilgrimage to his shrine was designed to be as threatening as being involved in combat.
While the shrine only ever attracted a small amount of people in the past, climbing to the shrine has become something of a milestone in modern times. Modern technology and conveniences have made it easier to make it to the shrine than in the past. Making it to the entrance of the shrine is still considered a show of bravado.
In recent years there have been different tour organizations arranging trips to the shrine. Some people devout to Obrator consider the approach many of these new pilgrims have belittles the traditions of the shrine. The tourist revenue however has been of great help to the Church of Obrator in maintaining their other temples in this time of decreasing attendance.
The trip does still remain very dangerous, and there are regularly fatalities of people both going to and coming from the shrine.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of the Shrine is to weed out the weak from the devout. For people to risk their lives and wellbeing to show their dedication to the God of War.
The local priests who oversee the shrine also preform regular rituals to the god and maintain the grounds.
The most famous is the yearly memorial to the famous is the Bloodletting Ritual. In it, the high priest offers his blood and the blood of all the failed aspirants to Obrator to continue leaving the shrine in peace. They feel that this turns the gaze of the God of War to other targets, so they may instead focus on their prayers and tasks.
Architecture
This facility is located on the side of a mountain in the frozen wastes in the north. The path offers little shelter, and consists of numerous dangerous climbing sections. At the start of the pilgrims path can be found a scattering of memorials to those who failed to make the journey.
The shrine itself has grown to be very large over the years. Most of the living facilities are underground. It on the site of a natural geothermal site and hot spring, which is used to both heat the facility and as a source of water. The heat also allows them to run a greenhouse where they draw most of their food from.
