Stonyford
Stonyford, (Stánford in the language of the Vales) is the
southernmost settlement of the Beornings beyond the Old
Forest Road.
There has not been a true ford at Stonyford for hundreds of
years. The river which was once passable here all year long, now only offers passage during a scant few weeks in high summer.
The tumbledown pile of stones atop a hill leading down towards the river were once
a watchtower that guarded the road in a time when kings
ruled the land. The village remains, though; a few wooden
huts that cluster all along the side of the mound by the
river. The folk here survive by fishing and hunting, as they
have done for many generations.
In 2946 TA the banks of the river saw fierce battle as a wildmen horde under the command of Valter the Bloody crossed the river and fell into a carefully constructed ambush laid by a band of brave warriors who aided the Beornings in slaying many of the wicked men, including Valter their leader.
If not for the quick thinking and the heroic actions of this motley crew of adventurers then surely Stonyford would have fallen and perhaps much of Beorn's lands would now also lay in ruin.
