House Hyarr

House Hyarr (S. "Hyarmenyaména") The Hyarmenya Lands were one of the westernmost old principalities, bordering the Blue March and the wilds north of the Elven March. The Hyarmenyar family, one of the seven Great Houses of Arthedain, had long had an interest in maintaining good relations between the Dúnadan kingdom and the Elves of , with a secondary goal of preserving trade links with more southerly realms. Arthedain's Southern March, was a region of Eriador that comprised lands lying on the north bank of the Baranduin and west of the Fox Downs. This was Sîrrandrai (W. "Silvan") country, for the most part, but dotted by Sindar glades and retreats. Arnor trappers and traders given leave by the Elves visited the March, generally where river access could be had from Girithlin.
By far the richest of the Houses, its power is not proportionate to its wealth. Relatively few of its scions occupy positions of authority in the military and administration since the Hyarromenyar usually work in the family businesses. However, the opinion of its members has always been especially valued by the King of Arnor for a very simple reason: due to their House's mercantile interests, the nobles of House Hyarromenya have always had connections in faraway lands and their outlook has always been more worldly and cosmopolitan than that of the rest of the nobles.
