Dragons

We've been soaring in the Skies longer than them. This land is ours. My brothers and sisters, those that can muster the bravery to face them, we shall fly at dusk.
Clawstopper Ignisha, Diurnal Gryphoness.
Dragons are the dominant species of the world known as Midrast Wain. There are five draconic species each with their own hierarchy, appearance, customs and lifestyle that differs from the others. Hybrids between these tribes also exist but are generally shunned and regarded only as little better than Wild dragons.   There are many differences between them, some of which you can predict just by looking at them, yet others may be more subtle than that. And while many books and movies have instilled belief in all of us that dragons are selfish and gold-hoarding monsters, dragons of Midrast Wain save for the Witless ones are instead more invested in seeking fame and notoriety. They could be feared, adored, secretive, beautiful, strong or knowledgeable but as long as they have something to strive for and be noticeable, they will generally pursue their means of renown by any means necessary.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All dragons share the same common trait of possessing 6 limbs and being warmblooded. Two wings and four paws to stand on, their forepaws are also used to manipulate items. Long prehensile tail helps them maintain balance and grasp smaller items to pull them closer or toss them away. Some draconic species such as Mud dragons are also very gifted Purveyors (crafters).

Genetics and Reproduction

Phases of the Moons influence some draconic species reproduction habits more than the others. All dragons are oviparous (lay eggs).

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragons generally lay 1-3 eggs and are able to fly within their first 5 years of life. They reach full sexual maturity at around year 9-10 but most tribes only consider a dragon truly adult either after they pass an Adulthood ceremony or they finish learning their profession. This happens generally around their 12th year.

Ecology and Habitats

Generally warm and dry climates, except for Water dragons who spend a majority of their life underwater. It is not uncommon to find dragons building their own homes out of clay, wood and stone or carving a cave out into the mountains.

Dietary Needs and Habits

All dragons are omnivores except for Fire dragons who are carnivores. It is common for Greencarers and Hunters to prepare the raw meat into meals mixed with vegetables, sauces, fish, fruits and herbs to feed as many dragons as possible.

Biological Cycle

Mud dragons are the only species that hibernates and is influenced the most by passing season. Generally, all dragons prepare for the month of Freezan by storing their food and preserving it, yet oftentimes this means lower rations of meat and in turn, lower physical activity.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All five senses are present in all species, but in general, all dragons have a keen sense of smell.

Civilization and Culture

Common Myths and Legends

According to the myths and legends, all of dragonkind are descendants from the primordial Sun Dragons and Moon dragons. It is unknown how exactly the dragons evolved into what they are now but it is suspected that Sun dragons enslaved the Moon dragons and populated the world with many crossbreeds that eventually evolved into today's species.   Another legend speaks of the fact that Dragons came into this world after Gryphons and The Ancients, and as such is considered to be "The youngest race."

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Despite some similarities, most draconic species tend to discriminate against Hybrids and other races than their own. There are many tribes that welcome those of other race because of their capabilities or profession, yet the bigger and older ones generally do not allow these individuals to join them.
