Storm of Fates and Paths

"You can never be truly lost, only be on a Path towards a new discovery."
— Shee'ril, self-imposed Wild one.
Few gods are as elusive and yet widely respected as Storm, the god of Fates and Paths. Generally regarded as deity that favors Travellers, Scouts and Couriers, he takes on a physical form during monsoons, storms, sandstorms, snowstorms and blizzards, his outline just barely visible dancing amongst the sky and answers prayers from those that wish for a safe and swift journey.

Summary

"Listen to the wind and you will find guidance within."
— Old Gryphon saying
Storm himself is oftentimes also referred to as "Master of Paths" or "Master of Fate", regardless of what name he is referred to, his appearance tends to be disproportionate, otherworldly and ever-shifting. It is widely assumed he can take upon himself any guise he wants, but in stories and folklore tends to be depicted as a tribeless traveler or helper in disguise, granting boons to those that are kind and punishing those that are cruel with schemes that unravel themselves as time passes by, sometimes even coming into pass a generation later, punishing or rewarding the offspring of the culprit.

Prayer

The most common type of prayer amongst believers of Storm is to gather sand or pebbles from each new place that the traveler has been to. Their pebble-sand pouches, called Memra are never inherited, these are always to be buried together with their rightful owner, and not doing so will cause great unrest for the wandering Dream of the traveler.   Right before a great journey is undertaken, the believer takes a moment to form a small pile of either local sand or stones in a high area and waits for the wind to scatter this pile before taking off. This is believed to bring to good luck for the upcoming journey. If the wind is not strong enough or the scattering takes too long, it is likely that the traveler will be beset by a storm or other unpleasant weather on their way to the destination.   Last but not least, a great sense of humor, sometimes even foul and distasteful is a true binding that connects numerous worshippers of the Storm. While there is no recorded information on why that is the case, these dragons and gryphons tend to be a great source of fun stories, and these are important for them to share amongst each other whenever they meet up. Perhaps to briefly entertain themselves and to bring joy to one another in what is otherwise a fairly lonesome lifestyle.

Historical Basis

While Storm has several origin stories, it is widely respected amongst Gryphons that he was borne of the union far before any creature can remember. His body took form as the Skies, Water and Earth each claimed their own domain and needed a way to communicate with each other. A messenger that will be bound to no-one, but shares a bond with each.
And so, each Element gave up a part of their essence and defied their own nature as to ensure their messenger will be fair.
  • The unyielding and heavy Earth, started to shred itself into tiny little grains, so that Sand could be formed. The exact opposite. Light, weightless, and effortless to carry.
  • The massive bodies of Water, so still and fluid would rise up to give way for gradual movement and restlessness, so that Waves could be formed. The exact opposite. Anger, power and change.
  • And lastly, Air, consumed by all who lived, would now become the one which consumes, so that it could absorb both Earth's Sand and Water's Waves with Wind. The exact opposite. Bringing destruction and Storms.
  • As time passed, Storm brought news between the Three elements, eventually being given domain over the realm of Fate itself, guiding those that favored him and punishing those that defied the laws of nature itself.    Currently, many believe that the realm of Fate was inherited from him by Perseverance, during her ascension but amongst Gryphons who do not revere this dragon-goddess, Storm is still the one and true master of Fate.

    Spread

The Storm's origin is traced back towards the Gryphons, even though its spread has reached the center of the The Continent and places of worship can be found even amongst draconic tribes neighbouring them.

    Variations & Mutation

Since the myths surrounding Storm are shared widely between many tribes via oral tradition, Storm is oftentimes regarded differently. The most common variations see him as:
    • Stormmaster, the bringer of fertility and rain, especially within Jungle territories.
    • Windspeaker, the deity of creativity and patron of crafts, as well as teachers and advisors.
