Water Clawstoppers

We lost ten eggs and two hatchlings to a Freighorn raid. Thankfully our masterful Clawstoppers Moray Eel and Barracuda managed to track them down and slay them before they retreated to the Deep seas, but we have lost many lives this day.

Hunters

of the Continental seas and elite fighters capable of using various dragon-made weaponry, setting up traps and the only ones brave enough to hunt and fight the dangerous deep sea creatures also known as Freighorn. While not an exclusively male profession, it is extremely rare for a female to become one, mostly because of their smaller frame and high importance to any Water dragon tribe.   To become a Clawstopper is rarely a choice in Water dragon tribes. Senior Clawstoppers go through the groups of 3 year old younglings and test each of them for their strength and cunning. Those that pass the initial testing will be taken under the tutorship of any available Clawstopper and be trained further. The apprenticeship is usually ended when they reach their seventh year or when they manage to successfully slay a Freighorn, whichever happens first.

Career Progression

Junior Clawstoppers may become Senior Clawstoppers through extraordinary and long-standing service (generally after about 5 years). Some smaller tribes may not even have a Senior Clawstopper. Senior Clawstoppers are recognized by a council of females.   The bigger tribes may also have an additional rank of Clawmaster, which is reserved for heroic and supreme achievements during their service. Clawmaster may only be recognized when females of at least three tribes convene and pass this rank onto the selected dragon

Payment & Reimbursement

Water dragons do not engage in payments of any kind, however, it is a greatly prestigious profession to have and can oftentimes lead towards that dragon becoming a tribe leader.

Other Benefits

Aside from fame and gratitude from fellow dragons, males of this profession tend to have a generally higher success in getting noticed by dragonesses before the Chase.

Perception

Purpose

Clawstoppers of Water dragons don't need to listen to their Leader and can disobey him should he ask them to do something they disagree with, for them, their main purpose is to ensure their tribe is safe and harmless and will remain so in the foreseeable future. This usually involves hunting down predatory fish that may threaten the tribe's hatchery, seeing that disputes are resolved in non-fatal way and protecting against the dreaded Freighorns.

Tools

Spears, Third claws, Flute, nets made of woven seaweed and palm-tree leaves, a pouch of provisions, cutting implement (varies what it is), sealed-off clay pots of ink (to be crushed between claws and confuse whoever is chasing the dragon holding it).

Provided Services

As elite hunters and guards, Clawstoppers can sometimes be persuaded or "hired" to track down some item or dragon of importance. Some tribes even go as far as using their Clawstoppers to kidnap others, provided there is a good incentive for them to do so. As with the usual Water dragons, they are of rather calm demeanor that rarely wishes to inflict harm upon others.

Dangers & Hazards

Hunting down or protecting against Freighorns is the greatest danger one can be subjected to as Clawstopper. If their poison doesn't cripple or paralyze them for the rest of their lives, their sharp teeth certainly will either maim or kill.

Stay and protect

While most adult Water dragons have to leave their tribe when they reach adulthood to find a new home and get their new name, junior Clawstoppers are one of the very few that get the opportunity to stay and serve their old tribe as Clawstoppers - this is especially true if the tribe in question is in dire need of more of them.
