Cantar Vin

Passage from Hergood Bladebrew's guide to Merriby East:   "Cantar Vin is the largest civilized society in Merriby East. It lies in the bay of the smaller island (which is called Eiravel). My crew and I docked in Cantar Vin with the goal of restocking the inventory before heading to the mainland. While in Cantar Vin, however, I found the place to be rather interesting.   The city (if you wish to call it that) is divided into three sections. The Stilts is the section closest to the Nailo Jungle. It’s pretty much a swamp back there, so the section of the city that exists in this area is built onto a large boardwalk, hence the name. The folks who live in The Stilts are tough. They often wake up in the middle of the night having to slay some beast that wandered in from the Nailo.   Cantar Center is where the majority of the citizens live. Also unique about this city is its population. I noticed a unique race here that would sometimes come in with the tide. They call themselves Tritons. They hail from the sea and occasionally make their way to land to trade. They aren’t hostile, but something about them seems off to me.   The Docks are where I spent most of my time. I ended up arguing with the dockmaster over prices. They must not get a lot of visitors from the Empire, so when my men and I docked and tried trading with gold pieces, they seemed frustrated. They took the gold after learning of its value, but the system of exchange there seemed to be more trade based. He wanted us to do a favor for him in exchange for goods. I never asked of this favor, so maybe he’s still offering.
The city has a few points of interest. The Stilts had what I believe to be a hag living alone in one of the homes. She didn’t seem to bother anyone with her presence, but I couldn’t help but suspect her of being responsible for some of the “missing” signs I’d seen at the local inn.   The area is ruled by a man named Slyth. He speaks with a lisp, on account of his forked snake tongue. I think he is what they call a Yuan-Ti. He seemed more than interested in what we were exploring in Merriby East. He offered us many goods to see what we might find while on the mainland. Slyth lives in a 3 story tower that overlooks the city.   Sri-lel is an old woman who sells divination services. She wants physical items for it rather than gold. She will answer a question for those who’s offerings please her. The answer may not be the most direct, but I did find some value in her prophecies.   Egelina’s is a shop that deals in items looted from shipwrecks. There was certainly a stockpile of interesting things, but Egelina herself seemed a bit shifty. I’m unsure of how she keeps her store supplied because I’ve never seen her leave the shop."

Geography

Cantar Vin is a city built within a putrid swamp. The area reeks of decay, and the town itself is desolate. Despite being a vital stop for sailors headed east, the area never improved or grew beyond its humble beginnings.
