Port Astra

The Door to Costrana

Port Astra has existed since long before any empire or guild in Costrana. Founded in the year 12, Port Astra began as a small fishing town. But after early Valtanan settlers in Sabrenn found mineral deposits in the Plyde Dunes, Port Astra became the main locale for shipping and distributing the gold. Much of Port Astra's impressive and notable landmarks are the result of the first ever International Midrial Exhibition in 805. As a world's fair of sorts, the exhibition started in the booming city because of its location. The exhibition was somewhat short lived, as only 2 ever took place before the various empires that founded the event crumbled and lost contact, leaving the known realms of Midrial in virtual isolation with one another.   https://open.spotify.com/track/3wlNmUeoHnM1jcOcXxC6qI?si=708e9b65ada64a2d   This did not hurt Port Astra, however. After being enveloped into the expanding Valtanan Empire in 796, the port handled any and all trade for The Imperial Coalition of Valtana . Even ships bound for other major ports stop in Port Astra before embarking south.   The official rule of Port Astra falls to King Allvine. However, the city is split amongst several Barons, who each tend to their own responsibilities day to day. Baron Vorriian Damarii handles the financial aspects of the city, Baron Aris Marfeuun handles the infrastructure and trade, and Baroness Reshana Caralore handles diplomatic affairs. Any other tasks are passed down to lower ranking officials of the various offices.   The city is protected by a large break wall, which was constructed in 1012 after a terrible hurricane destroyed the South Docks entirely. The break wall has now prevented 2 additional storms from reaching the city with any kind of significant force.   Port Astra boasts a population of nearly 500,000, second in Costrana only to Volagvoros.       Places of Interest:   The Palace of Elegwyn and the Palace of Quitris: The large feminine statues that look out towards the sea are a gift from the Rhorellian Empire from the first Midrial Exhibition. Accompanying each are large palaces. Once lived in by the princesses the statues were made for, the palaces are now mostly used for administrative business and the occasional grand party.   Arcane Alley: The Arcane Alley is home to the Silver Sparrow, a multi-story magical artifact and oddities shop. They boast the largest collection of magical items, gear and armaments in eastern Costrana. It is also home to a number of shops sure to be useful to the bold traveler.   The Ar'colima: The Ring of 1000 Contests is a colosseum that hosts regular contests of skill for coin. Loved by locals and visitors alike, this is sure to be a popular stop on your trip.   Drossik Yard and Drossik Academy: Drossik Yard is a district near the water, home to the nobles and wealthier citizens of Port Astra. Within this district, large Guardian Constructs patrol and protect the area. Drossik Academy is a public school with a library and research hall made available to those who need to use the space.   Allvine St: Allvine Street is another shopping district for sightseers to stop at. It contains just about anything someone might need and more!
